I have a prescription for Malarone, just wondering if these tablets can be purchased in Thailand for a cheaper price???
Malarone in Ireland costs €136 for 31 tablets, I want to take this kind of malaria tablet as it has the least amount of side effects and you also only need to take it a day before entering a malaria zone. I will be flying into Bangkok and was wondering if it was possible to buy the tablets over the counter at a pharmacy there for cheaper?? Any help would be appreciated!!
Reply to this Hey,unfortunately you cant get hold of malarone here in south east asia (believe me,ive optimistically asked every chemist ive come across and usually been greeted with a laugh)
You can however get Doxycyline, which is an antibotic and widely available everywhere out here. The only down side is that it can make you slightly more sensitive to the sun. but ive been taking it for 2 months now and havent had any problems (im super careful in the sun anyway)
My personal advice, esp as your flying into bangkok which isnt bad for malaria (most major cities you are generally safe in for malaria) is to buy doxycyline when you arrive. Its SO much cheaper, im from the UK, and i got a months supply out here for 2p a tablet, rather than the ridiculous price you'd pay for malarone at home its much cheaper to buy doxy out here. The only difference is you have to take it 2 days before entering a malarial zone and 4 weeks after you've left.
Hope this helps 😊
