Were hoping to catch an overnight train from HCMC to Danang, does anyone know if the info on this page is up to date (timetable/price)?

http://www.govietnamtours.com/Train/Vietnam-Train-Ticket-Booking-Services-Trains.asp

I assume a hard sleeper would be cheaper than the soft berth, which is what´s shown there. Is a hard sleeper comfortable? Is that the 6 bed?

Anyone know how far in advance you´d need to buy these tickets? Probably be traveling in late August.

Ah and can you buy overnight tickets from stations different than the one you´re in, for example to buy a Hue to Hanoi ticket from the train station in HCMC ? Can you buy them through the internet?

Lots of q´s, I appreciate the help if anyone knows!

We bought our tickets just a couple of days before we boarded but not sure if that is the norm. Our experience says you won't get much sleep either way so make a financial decision. When we were in Hue we had upgraded to a hotel for a couple of days. The front desk purchased our tickets for us.

While you are in Hanoi go see the water puppets.

Have a great trip. Reply to this

Hi

I can't tell you exactly how up to date the details on that page are. Bear in mind that it's the website of a travel agent, so the prices could be just what that particular travel agent is charging.

This page How to catch a train in Vietnam is a non-travel agent related guide to many of your questions including times, prices and how to do it. It might help you.

As for booking, most people book through travel agents in the city they are in. You can browse a few for price and ask fellow travellers to recommend some.

Flying is very cheap within Vietnam if you want to consider an alternative. Jetstar Asia have dirt cheap tickets and it's quicker.

Hope this helps. Reply to this

Hi,
You can buy train tickets of any routes at a station.
Traveling by train would be a great experience. In this case, you should book a sleeper for overnight train as you might not sleep with a seat!
