Cost of creams etc...
13 years ago, July 24th 2010 No: 1 Msg: #116389
Hey, sorry to post on such a mundane topic but we´re traveling to Bangkok this week and are debating whether to bring sun creams, shampoos, body creams, etc... from home (Spain) or buy them there. I´ve heard that most things cost a fraction of what they do here but not sure if that applies to these types of items.
Another thing while I´m at it, are the electrical outlets the same as in Continental Europe? We´re also going to Malaysia and Vietnam so any info about the outlets there would be appreciated.

Thanks. Reply to this

If you're coming to Vietnam buy suncream before you arrive. It's hard to get it below factor 50 and a lot of it has whitening properties. I'm assuming that's not what you want!!

Actually I use 50 all the time here in spain and still get quite tan (at least by my standards), whitening was not in the plan however! Can you get some without it there and is it clearly labeled on the bottle?

Our trip is 7 weeks long, so we need approx 7 weeks worth, whatever that is......

Thanks for all the help from both of you. Reply to this

Face creams, body creams and shampoos are all relatively cheap.. obviously depends on if you want brand name or not but they will be cheaper than in Spain. We always tried to buy things from the local markets as they were always cheaper there.. like Kris & Kate say though just read the labels carefully as lots of the body creams, deoderants etc have whitening in them, it will be obvious though as most have english labels on them. If you aren't sure don't get it and buy one which you are sure about.

From memory Bangkok has the same plugs as Spain but Malaysian plugs are the British 3 pin type... can't remember about Vietnam. You'll easily be able to pick up an adaptor on your travels though. Reply to this

Vietnam is a two plug. Like Spain but they use the round type. Sometimes the flat European type doesn't work. However, they are selling adaptors all over the place so it's not a problem if you need a converter.
