I,m fairly new to travelblog forum and I was wondering do any of you have \"tricks\" on how you choose your favourite bloggers that you would like to follow (apart from region they are in). There are so many and some interest me others not so much, any ideas on how to select favourites Reply to this

Some may simply go by those bloggers who make it to the Front Page. Over time, you will find your own favorite among those Front Pagers who made it there in the first place because they gained at least 3 recommends from fellow-bloggers who have read their blogs. But this means you may be missing out on those unknown bloggers (those with fewer than 3 recommends) who may be equally good, if not better.

My "trick" is to check out the Travel Photos. I love looking at travel pics and the ones I find interesting I check. That trick sometimes lead me to unknown bloggers with very well-written blogs matched with good photography. My sense is that a good blogger with a good story to tell would always aspire to commit good memories in the pictures they take. Reply to this

We use the same trick as Liliram... great photos are always attracting... not just great photos though, interesting ones too so being a top photographer is not always essential.

We also pick blogs if people have been to places we are researching, we use them to find out information about the places as much as the stories people have to tell so that's another way we find new people just by searching through by the country.

We have a read through the blog and if there are more have a flick backwards through past ones and take it from there... Reply to this

Thanks folks, the photo idea is a good one, I am so interested in other peoples travels and I have read lots from the areas I am traveling in but always want to read more especially in areas I have never been, Just by choosing random bloggers I have found some very talented writers and although I am not particularly interested in the region they write about they have "got" me now just because of their writing talent. I am beginning to realise that just because someone makes the front page does not make them the most interesting or best writers, I will try your technique and see what I come up with, cheers for the tips Reply to this

Glad to be of help. And while you're at it, you may want to put in your own nominations for Unknown Blogger for the Week. Reply to this

As soon as you come across a sentence in a blog that ends with more than one exclamation mark !!!! Stop reading!!! That should speed things up. Reply to this

I've used the photo approach but I prefer going into the Newest blogs each morning and browsing around. I like to read two or three each morning to get my day started. It gives me something new and fresh to day dream about during the day. I often go into the information they have included about themselves first because I like to know a little bit about their story.

It is always great to discover a new and exciting writer or photographer. Im not always looking for the next Hemmingway I just want to feel their enjoyment of their travels and hear the excitement in their writing about their day and their discoveries. Plus I like to learn something new.....and usually do.

I only choose people who write really well, obviously look over/edit their work and take pride in each entry.

Therefore, I only recommend/favorite blogs whose entries deviate from the standard: "and then we did this! and then this! and insider tip, make sure you check out this!" Instead, I prefer blogs where the entries are stories that connect to the greater whole of the blog. Usually, I prefer humor/wit in the way they present their material. Reply to this

Good writing, editing, and pictures (with text) are a must. As for finding such blogs, I am usually interested in those who are traveling around the world for a year or more (something I want to do, but usually end up doing a region in a 2-3 week trip). Such people usually travel through Bangkok, Thailand, so I check blogs for that location every few days. When I find an interesting writer with an interesting perspective, an opportunity that abounds at this location but few who meet the challange, I click on their name and start from their first blog, reading about their trip so far. If I make it to Bangkok, then I subscribe for the rest of their trip. I have commented on their blogs, and for a couple, we have bonded and hope to meet someday. It's always a disappointment when they finish their trips, and a surprise when you get an email notification that they are on the road again. <snip>

Believe me....it is sad for us when we finish our trip around the world.

A year of travel puts life in perspective. Reply to this

I love a blog that gives me a feeling of the place though the blogger's eyes, however I also look for practical information like names of cafes and restaurants, walking distances from hotels to train stations etc - I find this invaluable when planning trips. So when I find a blogger who likes sharing handy details, they are a keeper for me 😊 Reply to this

Obviously, I love traveling.

When you are passing certain borders like the US or the UK, they are always asking you what do you do in life. Not really what I can answer now....

I find that most long term around the world backpacker prefer Asia. I can totally understand why. However, I am still completely in love with Europe. I spent the last 3.5 years visiting and revisiting European cities. I will be done with Europe for a couple year after this summer.

For the time being, at work most of the time, I am opening travelblog Europe section and just read new blogs. I will be probably doing the same thing with Asia and Africa who will be my next long term destination after the summer.

I like all kind of blog. I like learning something in them. I like understanding a specific feeling.

Nick
