Camping in Africa

So many companies, how do you choose?

Hello fellow travellers,
I am planning a trip to Africa the end of this year and I have heard really good things about camping tours. I'm told they really immerse you into the African culture, more so than a lodge safari. We wanted to visit as many countries as possible in a matter of three weeks. Can anyone give me some advice on a good company to use? Personal experiences? Thanks Reply to this

Hi,

It is true, sometime you can get confused in choosing the right company, thats why you need some real experience from other travelers who have done it. I did safari in Kenya and was very pleased. you can check my experience through my blog and some of the photos i took, i was happy with the company that handled, she. Hi,
I did a mostly camping trip through Africa from Kenya to Cape Town with Acacia & they were really good. They do lots of different length trips depending what you want to do. Reply to this

I did Cape Town to Nairobi with Nomad and they were awesome! It was 6 weeks, but you can do Cape Town to Vic Falls, or Vic Falls to Nairobi. Both of those options are 3 weeks and you would see a few countries.

Acacia (as mentioned above) seems good too. Their trucks are nicer than Nomad's. Reply to this

Safari camps are a fabulous way in which to get really up close with Africa. There are a range of levels of camp, some are quite basic with long drop loos and simple safari furniture and bucket showers, and cooking around the campfire, whereas others are very high end and have flush loos, four poster beds even, plunge pools etc. So it really does depend on what you envisage as the standard you want your safari to be.

It is important to ensure the company you use is reputable of course, so look out for affliations and memberships to professional bodies etc. I travelled alone last year with , my trip was high end really and as I was travelling alone I found this the best thing.
