MEMORABLOGS - A New idea ?

Would you be interested in posting or viewing past travel journals - MEMORABLOGS ?

At the moment I am writing a "MEMORABLOG" on a bike trip from England to Singapore which started in 2001. At the time, there was no such thing as 'Blogging' and everthing was written in a book. So much information about so many important things that could help and inspire future travellers. So, earlier this year I thought I'd start a blog of the trip, 5 years later, day by day as if it is happening right now, word for word from the journal - this, I decided would be the birth of the MEMORABLOG.

What I'd like to know is "Do you like the idea"?

And Travelblog.com, why not make a special heading for Memorablogs, I'm sure there are thousands of great journals and photos out there waiting to be discovered....

And the word, Memorablog? Well, I had a search on the internet last month and found no mention of this word, it hasn't actually existed until now. It was my girlfriends idea - do you like it or can you suggest something more catchy.

Keep on seeing the World....

Well Andy - I like the idea, I'm enjoying your posted dated progress across Eurasia - and I particularly try to push bicycle based journeys to our front page. Two reasons for this

- I really want to make a similar journey by bicycle

- it's an environmentally friendly way to travel.

Increasingly this should be a concern for everyone, we're pushing the planet into an unprecedented period of rapid climate change, we have no idea of the outcome on the world we see today. Whatever the outcome the world we be a much sadder place for the loss of countries that lie below sea level, such as the Netherlands - sounds extreme - but it is one outcome from rising sea levels. Back to Memorablogs - someone did this with Samuel Peyps' diary recently - I guess the most extreme example of a memorablog - I know that many travelblog members are adding in travel diaries all the way back to the 70's - I need to extend the dates back even further as there are photos from 1926 on the site.

The name - I kind of like it - go register the domain 😊 - I can't think of something more catchy at the moment. Reply to this

Hi Ali - Thanks for your comments and the tip about registering "memorablog" - I did it! www.memorablog.com But there's nothing there at the moment, hoping to write up my journals dating back to 1988 though.

I echo your comments on environmental change too, one of the main reasons I do all of my touring by bike is because of my concern for the planet. I got rid of my car in 1995 and have never looked back, best decision I ever made. Hope we get more bikepackers on Travelblog - hopefully they're encouraged by my crazy tales of how much fun you can have on the road under your own power?

Best Wishes, ANDY Reply to this
