Trying to decide where to go

I'm going to Europe for about two weeks in May and I need to decide where to go.

I am going to Europe in May to visit my sister in Spain for about a week and then I plan on traveling on my own. I have a few flexible requirements, I want to go to England, Scotland and fly back from Ireland. Since I'm going to England I feel obligated to (and pretty much have no choice) visit France.

Ideally I would visit Italy, Switzerland and Germany as well. How similar are Switzerland and Germany? If they are then I have no problem skipping one to save money.

I'm just trying to figure out a rough draft for now. Your help is appreciated. Reply to this

Hi Mike

Are you going to Europe for 2 weeks including Spain, or after a week in Spain?

Even in two weeks, 6 countries seems a lot to see. How are you planning to travel? Fly or overland? If you are flying between places then you could choose a couple of cities you are interested in to visit and fly between them. If you are planning to do this overland then you have some long journeys to fit into your two weeks.

Check out the budget airlines like easyjet and ryanair and see if you can put together an itinerary based on that.

Hope this helps.

Hello Mike 😊

If saving money is important, then choose Germany over Switzerland, because Switzerland is more expensive. I am not so sure they are similiar to each other though. All European countries have their differences.

Hi Mike,

How similar are Switzerland and Germany?

depends on where in Switzerland you were planning to go.
In very genreal terms, the german-speaking parts of Switzerland have affinities to Germany, while the french speaking parts and the italian speaking parts resemble more to France and Italy.
Swiss people would hunt me down for saying this, though.

2 weeks including Spain, no more than 7 days in Spain though.

I was hoping to get a Euro Rail Pass, I figure it's got to be the best way to see Europe. I'll be traveling by my self so time constraints won't be as bad.

depends on where in Switzerland you were planning to go.

I want to get some opinions on places to go other then in Spain. If I go to Italy I definitely want to go to Venice, ideally Rome as well. I will certainly go to Paris, London, and Dublin.

On the rail pass, you can choose the number of countries you want to visit, does that number include the country you leave from? Reply to this

Hi Mike,

So you have 7 days for your trip - visiting 6 countries? Have you checked out the travelling time between the cities you mention wanting to visit? This may affect which places you have time to see over your 7 days.

While I'm not the type of person that needs to spend days in a city to "soak" it in, I've decided to cut it down to 4 countries. I'll travel from Spain through France to England, Scotland, and lastly Ireland.

I looked up the prices for taking ships from France to England and from Scotland to Ireland, much cheaper then I thought it would be.

Does anyone recommend any good hostels in the above countries? I definitely need to stay in Paris, London, Edinburough (I hate trying to spell this city), Belfast and Dublin. Reply to this

Hi,

I live in London and I know that many students and young people, when they come to london for parties they go to the Rotyal National Hotel.
It is very big hotel and probably cheap too. It is in Central London - Russell Square.
And also i knew some time ago someone working there and I was told that prices are cheap.
Hope it helps.... Reply to this

Still think is way too much for the among of time you have...

however, there is a really cheap hostel name piccadily backpackers. It is crapy but in the middle of everything. With this much time I would stick to paris and london...or london and edinburgh or dublin Reply to this
