Mel, the answer to your question is yes, I do us those showers - anyway the shower is usually at one end of the room and the squat toilet the other. Reply to this

No problem. I am just wondering if people use them. Appart from the locals in those countries I mean.
But if I was to suggest a problem I would ask if one gets ones clothes wet while trying to use those showers that are beside the squat toilets. Reply to this

You mean the "bum gun" - yep - the mystery for me too is how people get dry after using those things... Reply to this

I agree Mell - I do find it a challenge trying not to get my clothes wet while trying to use those showers. If you'll lucky there is a little window opening sometimes on which you can put your clothes - then the problem is getting dressed again without the legs of my trousers getting wet... Reply to this

I never use those things. It is just too complicated.

Well I have certainly been forced into going completely native in India.. but I can't say I like it!! Leaves I could cope with, little water hoses are great, b-days (or however you spell it) are fine... but the hand? In my experience you can wash it three or four times with soap and water and apply anti bacterial hand gel and it still doesn't feel clean.
Plus hasn't anyone ever noticed how the water you are supposed to wash with tends to look rather scummy, with little dead insects in it.... and how many hands have been in that bucket before yours? I definately agree with the concept of washing being more hygenic... but the hand and bucket method seems to defeat the point a little. Reply to this

disgusting topic but very important. im from the Philippines and we use spray hose. then wash with soap. and yes i do manage to look dry after doing that. you'd master the skill when you grow up doing it. but we do use paper when we're not home Reply to this

and may i add. we have discussed how western people do it and im sorry, but we also find your way somewhat disgusting. because if you dont wash with soap after using paper youd have some on your undies. and thats just gross. washing with soap is very important for us. or you can use wet tissue with disinfectant, then thats fine. just the asian perspective, no pun intended.
