Miri or Sibu??

Please help me decide between the two!

Hi Guys

Am off to Malaysia and will be spending 2 weeks in Borneo.

We have a few days planned in Kuching and then were thinking of getting the ferry to either Sibu or Miri. We want to spend some time visiting the traditional longhouses, where would be the best place to go out of the two?

I dont really know alot about either places, so info on other things to do etc would be great!

Thank you.

Miri has more things to see compare to Sibu. Sibe is really really small so i wont suggest u going there. However if u r thinking of visiting the longhouses, u need to make arrangements with the local tours coz most of the houses are upgraded into 'modern' longhouses nwadays - to get one in the actual condition will be hard - and it'll be far from the city. Miri itself has quite a lot to offer including scuba diving at the offshore where u can experience abundant marine life, tons of infamous national parks around it including the unesco heritage site of Mulu, archeologist favourite Niah cave, flora rich virgin rainforest of Lambir National Park, indigenous and breathtaking bario highland, Loagan Bunut national park and many more.
Sibu is the 3rd largest town in Sarawak after Kuching and Miri. There are some recreational parks and the magnificent rejang river as the mother river. People usually come here for its cheap and delicious local delicacies. There is a classy river cruise operating along rejang river until the upstream and it takes 7 days for the whole journey. I though there are plenty of indigenous longhouses at the upstream.
There are some tour operator that organizes trip to Skrang river and Lemanak river to visit the longhouses and also some homestay programme from Kuching. check out http://www.mataharitours.com/tours.htm and http://www.cphtravel.com.my/ and also http://www.journeymalaysia.com/ Reply to this
