A 12 months trip to south and central america but im very confused of what sort of flight package to take.
Im in such a confused state that i really not sure what to do, so any advice is very much welcome. Im going to south america in October 2010 and im starting in Argentina making a land journey through SA and into central america. Im very happy with this itinerary and i have considered doing a round world trip journey but the main factor for me is that i don't wish to rush through countries but rather go at a slower pace and get a feel for the country and the latin culture.
So i know where i want to go and i know when i want to go. I kind know where my arrival point is and i kind of know my departure point.. But these flights are really confusing me. Ideally i would fly into Argentina and fly out from Mexico. Im trying to find a cheap affordable option for this, but im having difficulty.
1) option 1 would be to fly on a one way ticket to Argentina. STA has quoted around £500 ( british pound ) for this flight. which is fair enough but i have checked on kayak for a return flight from mexico and its over £800. but if you fly from new york to london it costs around £300. My other problem with one way flights is ive read their may be problems with customs etc because I don't have an return flight. however the STA agent said it shouldn't be a problem. I like the idea of one way flights because of the flexibility.
2) option 2 is to buy an open jaw ticket but you can only book around 11 months ahead. so i would have to buy my air ticket acouple weeks before i go to south america. I asked the STA agent and he said he couldn't book a multi city air ticket due to that fact.
3) option 3 woulb be to buy a world round ticket based around latin america. But i haven't done much research on world around tickets but i heard it costs abit extra to hit south america. Does any know and good world around packages based around my itinarary.
pls can anyone advise me?? has anyone else done a similiar trip ? any suggestions ?
Reply to this We flew into Bogota and then out of Sao Paulo and at no border crossing were we asked to prove we had funds or to prove we had a return flight and I don't know anyone else who was, either. So you shoud be just fine.
Reply to this I worried about his very heavily when booking my flights. Wish I hadn't.
I flew in to Quito and out at Buenos Aires. Not once asked about proof of onward travel.
Have fun.
