Myself and a friend are travelling to Rio 9th April, planning on spending a couple of weeks in and around the area before moving onto iguazu falls then on to Montevideo, Buenos Aires, parts of Chile, Bolivia, Peru flying back home from Lima.
All the travel books i've read have offered all sorts of advice on where to stay and what to do, just wondering if anyone has got any personal advice to give. If you do that would be great!
We were in Rio in December and stayed in a newish hostel called Cabanacopa - it was easily one of the best hostels we used whilst in South America for six months! It's a bit smaller than many of the hostels in Rio, but has a great bar, lovely staff, and they don't have the horrible three-storey bunkbeds that many Rio hostels have.
We have included a little bit about each hostel we stayed in in our blog, as we found this useful when reading other people's blogs for research before we went, so feel free to check that out!
Just finished reading your blog, fantastically well written if I may say so! Thanks for the advice, sounds like a fantastic choice for our first hostel in South America.
The only problem now is... your blog has thrown serious doubt on our initial plans of bypassing the south of Argentina, which looks and sounds incredible. I may have to have words with my fellow travel buddy.
