hi everyone!

my friends and i will be backpacking in southeast asia over the chinese new years. we're worried we'll run out of bus tickets from ho chi minh to phnom penh as it is the Tet holidays in Vietnam. Can someone pm me an e-mail address of a bus company that shuttles people from ho chi minh to phnom penh? the one we have is not replying. 😞

thanks!

iris

p.s. should we really be concerned at all of bus tickets running out?

Would it also be possible to travel directly from Siem Reap to Rayong in Thailand?

Hi Iris

Do you mean this Chinese New Year? As in, next week? When are you going to arrive in HCMC?

There are ALOT of bus companies running between HCMC and Phnom Penh. Have you looked at Sinh Tourist? They used to be Sinh Cafe. I'm not going to put an email address or link on here because it will just encourage travel agents to post as well. But you can google it.

I would think that whether or not tickets run out will depend on which day you want to travel on.

As for Siem Reap to Rayong...you can get a bus from Siem Reap to the border at Hat Lek, cross the border into Thailand and then get a bus from Trat to Rayong.

Hope this helps.

Yes, as in this Feb 15, 2010 Chinese New Year's 😊

Good to know there are lots that can shuttle us to Phnom Penh. Will definitely look into your reco. Feb 15 is a Monday but it's a holiday so that's where my anxiety stems from.

As for the Hat Lek route, wow! that's the first time i've read about that. will look more into it. all i've read about is the following:
> siem reap to poipet
> poipet to aranya prathet
> aranyaprathet to bangkok
> bangkok to rayong
total travel time: 10 hours

Thank you so much for the help! you're heaven sent.

I know that i comment too late for you, but i think that it is very good information for someone wanna from Saigon to Phnom Penh by bus:

You can choose Mai Linh Express which price 10usd. ( www.mailinh.vn) ( they pick up you at Pham Ngu Lao - De Tham street)

There are many bus companies that travel between HCMC and PP several times a day. It takes about 7 hours including the border crossing. It costs somewhere between $10 and $15 per person. You also need $20-25 for the Cambodian visa.

All the companies leave from the Pham Ngu Lao area of HCMC. You can book tickets the day before.

Hope this helps. I have deleted your duplicate posts with the same question. Please only post one message per request. Thanks

Thanks Kris , Kate & iris,

Your info very helpful.

I manage to get cheap air tickets from Kuala Lumpur to HCMC on 21 Okt & return from PPenh to Kuala Lumpur on 26 oktober. It is consider short period of vacation.

Changed my plan now. My priority now is to fly from HCMC to Seam Reap and from SR by bus to PP. Is there any low cost airline (like Air Asia) between these two sector ?

If no available airline (reasonable price ) will go back to the original plan but by bus from HCMC to PPenh (7 hours by bus .. wew!)

Any suggestion? What are the places cannot be missed at HCMC & PP within my limited time .

Hw about cheap accomodation for two person in HCMC, Seam Reap and PPenh

TQvm

In HCMC you can find easy cheap hotel in Pham Ngu Lao Street or De Tham Street. ( 15 - 25 usd/day)
In PPenh i recommend Capital Gusset house with a lot of room with 8 usd/room including air Cond. Reply to this

Hi all,

Now my plan changed again after I read 'autumnnovember' comment. Tqvm!. I think it wise to travel by bus direct from HCMC to Seam Reap coz my fligt to Kuala Lumpur is from PPenh. I will go to S Reap first, after that go back to PPenh to catch the flight to KL. I will have 2 days in P Penh with in mind while waiting for the flight.

My question: It take how long/hours travelling from HCMC to Seam Reap? (according Mr Rat it 7 hours from HCMC to P Penh)..... pls !

SookerLee:

The price of 1 way ticket from HCMC to Seam Reap is VND 340.000 by bus, and ticket from HCMC to PP is VND200.000. It's good way to change money from USD to VND and pay by VND
It takes exactly 12hours by bus from HCMC to Seam Reap and the bus leave HCMC from 6.00AM to 14.00PM. For PP takes 10h and departure on the same time as to Seam Reap.
