Needing suggestions for the best way to travel between places in Eastern/Central Europe and also any hidden gems along the way that aren't necessarily detailed in regular travel books/websites etc.
Hi there,
My fiance and I are heading on a round the world trip in 3 months and haven't really planned too much of our Europe leg yet. We'll have around 40 days there in May and so far on the list of destinations we want to see (and plotting them out on a map is roughly a round trip in the following order) - Tallin (3 days); Warsaw (4 days) and Krakow (3 days); Istanbul (3 days), Goreme National Park (2 days) and Gallipoli (3 days); then we were thinking maybe travelling to Greece (5 days), up through Italy (10 days), through Switzerland (3 days), Liechtenstein (overnight), Austria (2 days), Czech Republic (2 days) then back to Poland (we family there). I know the last part of the trip sounds rushed (and still doesn't add up to 40)! so I'm needing advice on whether it is worth trying to do the last few countries in such a short time or whether we should just leave it at Italy or Switzerland and get a flight back to London for the next leg. Also, I'd like advice on - Goreme NP, is it worth the trip (because it is very out-of-the-way but then how often are you in Turkey!)? Best way to get between these countries? Recommended stay times in cities/countries and tips on things to see apart from the usual/obvious tourist attractions. Our main aims of the trip are to get a feel for the respective histories and rich cultures, and see some of the extraordinary scenery. Looking at this list I think France, Spain, Germany, UK etc deserves a separate trip!
Reply to this Hi Linda,
My first thought upon reading your post was: you're not going to eastern Europe! There are some great towns on your itinerary, but only Warsaw and Krakow are culturally and geographically eastern. Have you thought about Minsk, Kyiv or Moscow?

Reply to this Hello Linda 😊
I think it is important to not try to do too much. Otherwise you would spend all your time rushing around. Be sure to spend a least 3 nights at every stop.

Reply to this The former yugo block is great! i did three weeks from prague and vienna to yugoslavian countries and wasnt rushed but missed a lot in my opinion. there are some great parks in croatia, slovenia... croatian islands are nice, mountains in slovenia are great
i also just got back from turkey, i could have easily spent 3 weeks there, the one week i was there was no where near enough
greece is cool, but more then 5 days for sure - athens is a fun city, the islands are great, and you can ferry from greece to italy if you want -- i did it a few years back, its in my blog over a few different trips
10 days in italy isnt enough either
i agree with mel find things you really want to do and concentrate them and relax instead of rushing around
have fun!!
