Hola. I've never heard of carnival celebrations in Mexico. At least not in a resort town. Or at least no where on the pacific that I know of. Forgive me if I am mistaken, but I have been through this region of Mexico for over 30 years now. Unless some resort has dreamed this up, it doesn't happen.

Of course they celebrate it in Cuba, some of the the islands of Carribe, and of course more famously Rio in Argentina. You might want to rethink your holiday. Reply to this

Mazatlan has the third largest Carnaval celebrations in the world, after Rio and New Orleans and has been having them for ages. I just read that it attracts 300,000 tourist to Mazatlan. I doubt that you would find any reasonably priced accomodations any more. Reply to this

Thank you Canadian2 -- yes, MZT purportedly has the 3rd largest Carnival party in the world. Accommodations are not a problem. Should be an exciting week! Reply to this

Well I guess I stand corrected!! But I'm still very surprised. Mazatlan is a tiny resort town, so for the town to have a carnival 3rd largest in the world, I am duly impressed! I drive through quite often and have yet to see this spectacular. Please let us know how it is! Reply to this

I wouldn't really consider Mazatlan a "tiny" resort town with a population of between 400 to 500 thousand, depending on the time of year. And last time I looked, Rio de Janeiro was in Brazil. Reply to this
