Looking to find some information about Bhopal!
14 years ago, December 16th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #96512
Hi everyone, I had been recently to Chennai and it was a real headache to find out the places of concern. I had to enquire about the city at various places to get my work done. Now, in a few weeks I am planning to visit Bhopal and would be there for a few days. I was hoping to have some insight on the city and the market so as to make things better for me there. Please let me know if you have any information on that. Reply to this

Hi Anette,

Maybe you've already had a look at some of the Bhopal blogs on TravelBlog, but just in case, here they are. Maybe there is some information in them about the city and the market?

Yes, you said it right. It is a nuisance to find out things about an unknown place and it creates more problems when you don’t have any support from the local people. I believe that it would be better if you search information for a city online to know about the places there so as to prevent further problems. In my view, you can visit a to know more about the city.

Hi Anette - India could you intimidating to someone traveling here for the first time bcoz of language barriers etc, however would suggest checking out couchsurfing.com - if you wish to meet someone locally and help you around with directions, places etc.

Also, you could stay over with these couch surfers, if you are comfortable. Reply to this

Alrite ...here you go to Bhopal -----

Bhopal ...the city which once upon a time was a NAWABI (a kind of state in british india) represents a cocktail of culture...the old bhopal still retains the finer taste of mughlai food, which eventually got the name - Nawabi food..and the new bhopal is comprised of the high profile political families and administrative officers (Bhopal, being the capital to central indian state of Madhya Pradesh)...
The city enjoys a lovely geography with lakes surrounded by hills..lush green forests around...
As far as staying in Bhopal is concerned, you got some very good five star hotels...I would suggest you to look for - Hotel Palash (MPTDC), Hotel Jahanuma Palace (expensive one), Hotel Ranjeet ( Close to railway station) and a number of others..Check out the MP TOURISM WEBSITE for the same...
Food ...if you love non vegetarian..then take a stroll around the old bhopal...to get a bite of some Kebabs and Tikkas...
But...Bhopal has not been a famous host to tourists coming from other countries..so one has got to be careful for the same...
Once you step out of the airport, ask the local reservation offices over there..they can help with hotel..
If you are coming by Train..then...be smart..as I am sure you already are..since you have spent some time in INDYEAAAH 😊...the auto rickshaw guys may try to strike deal on and off....
My tips for you ---
Try and book a hotel in advance...if possible through some of those websites...
Once you book the hotel, tell them to assist you with travel arrangments in the city...

Anymore queries....feel free to ask...and do not forget to carry warm clothings if you are travelling in december or january...it can be dead cold out there...

God bless..... Reply to this

(2) Check out one of the most beautiful mosques in asia - Taj Ul Masjid
(3) there is this small wildlife sanctuary sorta --- Van Vihar..
(4) Around Bhopal...you got Bhojpur (google Bhojpur please)
(5) Sanchi..famous for its buddhist stupas built by the great king Asoka...is close to Bhopal....
