Short-Term Rent in Wanaka/Queenstown

We want to rent a place in either of Wanaka or Queenstown for up to 3 months whilst we work and soak up the snow. Does anyone have any advice or know where we can find info?

Obviously it's possible to rent rooms or holiday homes for extended periods but we want to keep accomodation costs lower by getting something in the normal rental market at normal rental prices. We understand that short-term rentals of fully-furnished properties are likely to be hard to come by and although we know of people who have had luck in NZ before, in most cases this has been in Auckland.

Obviously we need to know if it's (a) possible (b) affordable and (c) workable. Also it would be really useful if anyone has any information such as, any contact names/websites/addresses etc. and if anyone has any experience of this and can tell us how they did it, it would be great to hear from you.

Thanks in advance Reply to this

We stayed at the Caples Court apartment in Queenstown for 10 days. They have a regular hotel in town, but this apartment is just down the road (walking distance to town) and is pretty nice - though very oddly placed in a small strip mall that seems to sell mostly industrial kitchen equipment. We loved it though because it was quiet and a real apartment (we have a toddler) and fairly cheap compared to everything else we saw. It is a 2br apt, fully loaded kitchen, heated bath etc. No bells and whistles, but a lovely view of a mountain side with goats braying in the distance and amazing stars.

Here's a link to the apt web site: http://www.caplescourt.co.nz/luxury_apartment.asp Their main dude is Wayne and he is very prompt on email.

That said, I think if you are willing to go even further up the mountains it can be cheaper. And Wanaka probably more so. It's so beautiful there, SO beautiful you should do whatever it takes to get there and stay awhile, you will never regret it.

Thanks Esther - we'll send these guys a mail and see what the situation is there.

Since you have some experience, can you tell me whether there's an abundance of apartment/flats available? We're not sure whether we need to move fast on this or if we can hold out until we arrive before jumping in and making a decision. We also thought it might be easier to liase with agents and see properties once we got there - did you see other stuff as well whilst you were in Queenstown? Reply to this
