Which of your blogs had the most hits?

Perhaps not necessarily your best, but this blog had the most views?

Just curious. It may not be your masterpiece.......but this blog had the most hits. Was it the catchy title? Was it the exotic, off the beaten path location? Was interest in your blog driven by current events? Reply to this

In my case, it is I'll Never Grow Tired of Tagaytay. Thought the interest was driven by the fact that not too many blogged about the place. Or perhaps it helped that i am a local, blogging about my own place? Incidentally, my next 2 highly viewed blogs are also about places within my country. Northern Philippines: A Spanish Heritage and Bataan, Philippines: A Rare Collection of Colonial Houses. All 3 actually vie for top slot.

The most hits is for The Golden Stool, closely followed by Sex can wait!. The Golden Stool is about Ghana whilst I think the popularity of the other blog may be driven by the obvious.

Those statistics are though slightly misleading because they are both old blogs from 2005. The stats for last month show a different pattern. Last month Miami, New Orleans and Albuquerque got the most hits, followed by Liquid Shit which is about Madagascar. At number three last month was my blog about the Philippines Abu Sayyaf, Head Hunters, sharks, typhoons, active volcanoes and landslides. That was closely followed by my blog about Somaliland My second Home.

Those rankings do vary from month to month but I suspect that a catchy heading, current events and unusual off the beaten path destinations all contribute to the numbers of hits. Reply to this

Interesting, Stuart. Those are well-written blogs you've got too. Reply to this

My three most clicked on are: The Azeri food experiment. (had "sex" in the title before I changed it - the only one of my blogs to have reached 1000 views), "Waiter, could you take the pish out of my pizza?" (was the last blog I wrote before a long pause, so was my latest for a few months) and Harry Potter and the Source of my Inspiration. (quite a well-searched name, although it isn't about him).

They aren't my most interesting or best written blogs by a long chalk, so please don't read them and make the gap between them and my other ones even wider!

J.

Still curious. If those blogs with the most hits were not the best in your books, which were? Like I have read many of Stuart's and Jon's blogs (all good), but can you guys readily say which are your "masterpieces" ? It must be frustrating I guess, to have your favorite blog get less hits than those you've written not exactly in the best of times and moods.

Ben, I think your latest post Achtung baby - alone in Angeles (Angeles City, Luzon, Philippines) may soon overtake your top blog, considering over 500 hits in just a weeks time. Your blog about this place and dubbing it as possibly the sex capital of the world may have invited all that interest, and may i say, all those unsavory comments which peppered your blog in no time. ;-) I am not sure, but I did run a thread earlier about my sense that blogs with sexual or sensual undertones do attract a lot of hits. But do not let that take away the fact that you do have very well-written entries which I absolutely love to read.

Lily, yes, I thought about the very same thing after I posted my comment here. In fact, the Angeles entry received 450 hits in the first day after publishing, plus numerous critical comments and a few outright offensive ones, the worst of which I have deleted. And I also agree that this has probably very little to do with my journalistic talent (lets be realistic here) but rather as with some people having different motives for reading such an entry. BTW, my corresponding pictures on Flickr also attract a lot of interest, and I am busy blocking people there who keep selecting some of the pictures as their favourites.

Oh, it certainly wasn your best work 😉 But I meant it when I say you do have (other) well-written entries. Many, in fact. Anyways, it does look like you struck a nerve there. If you ask me, I think it is this statement (the last line) that may have offended some Filipinos............

I can only assume that most of the girls working here do so out of pure desperation with few alternatives available to them in this impoverished country. Then again, it must also be a cultural thing

Cheers, Ben! 😊

Now my most frequently hit blog has more hits than the one that used to have the most hits.

The most frequently hit one is much newer than the one that had the most hits. Reply to this

I find that the blogs with the most hits are the ones that come up on search engine pages. Any blogs with really boring titles (i.e. that just state the name of the place) get more hits than many others I'd consider better. Reply to this

- How about your least-viewed blog? Is it your most boring or least well-written, or do you think there are other factors?

The ones I hate, at the ones written by ''professional'' bloggers which are written only to get as many Google hits as possible, and to promote links and services. Yuck and insincere!, because they are often written by people who appear to have no feeling for what they are writing about. Surely, they can find something else to do for a living, so we dont get subjected to their SPAM.

And, I really dislike the blogs which are only written to complain about/slander a service. Reply to this

In my case, my least viewed blog is my least-inspired piece! But also dwelling at the bottom of my list is my blog which I felt was among my better-written blogs. Unfortunately, not too many agreed with me. 😞 I think it has a lot to do with how you title your blogs.

Mud Wrestling in Colombia

this has had the most hits - i think because colombia was only starting to get back on teh "Gringo Trail"

We also "quiet published" a number of blogs as they were written retrospectively for a record for ourselves - these have caught up with hits but are nothing like as many as those we publish to our subscribers which number over 200. Reply to this

It is a local one Billings, MT lots of local information.

Driving the Cook City Highway has the second most hits. It is from this summer and the pictures are great. Not for those who are afraid of heights. Reply to this
