Hi everybody,
My girlfriend and I will be landing in Quito on 1st November. This is the first stop on our South America trip so we will be completely new to it all. We were looking for any suggestions of where to stay for these first cuple of nights. We want to stay in a hostel and have heard the Old Town is the safest place, does anyone have the name of a hostel they stayed in there? As well as that is there a bus running from the airport to the Old Town if that's where we end up, or do you have to take a taxi?
Thanks for your help,
Mackin.

We stayed in a hostel called Casa Bambu which is between the old and new towns. It has a nice roof top terrace and good guest kitchen. The area it's in is safe. The hostel and the area around it is quiet so if you're looking for somewhere lively with nightclub trips etc this is not for you.

We took the bus from southern Ecuador so can't help on airport transfers.
Cheers. Have a great trip.
Reply to this Hi Martin,
Thanks for the name of the hostel and the heads up about the area. I'll have a look on their website.
All the best,
Mackin.

I was at the end of my trip in South America but Quito was the first place I went to whlst traveling alone. I stayed at the Secret Garden Hostel. Its nice and the staff are really friendly and it came to me with loads of recommendations.
I got to and from the hostel from the airport with the hostel taxi service. Whilst slightly more expensive than getting a taxi myself I didn't have the nightmare of navigating Quito alone. However that said I enjoyed Quito the day I was there and I had no problems despite all the scare stories you hear...
You will have to book Secret Garden in advance as it gets full quickly!
Reply to this Hi Andrea,
Sorry for the late reply, we are heading off on Friday so have been running about getting organised for the past 2 weeks! Thanks for your suggestion.
All the best,
Mackin.
