Travel from Asia to Europe

Trying to plan a trip going from Thailand to Spain without flying

My friend and I are planning a trip around Asia and eventually going through the Middle East towards Europe and traveling along the coast towards Spain. We really don't know much about trains and how to make this trip possible without flying from somewhere in Asia to Europe. We'd love to hear from anyone who has done this or something like this.

This is the route we have planned out so far:

Thailand, Burma, Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, and then go along the coast from Greece to Spain.

What we really need to know is how to take trains or buses from country to country and also whether we need to get visas ahead for any of the countries. For a few of them like Thailand, India, Nepal and Greece we will be staying for at least one month in each.

Any advice would be AWESOME! Reply to this

Doubt you'll be able to go through Burma - I know you can go Thai-laos-China, but not sure about China-Nepal.
Sure you can take a boat across to India/Sri Lanka.

Looks great, and there are hundreds of blogs on here about similar trips - good luck!! Reply to this

Yeah we weren't sure about Burma either ... I'll look into China - Nepal.

Also, I guess I should start searching in forums or blogs because I'm new to this site and it would be AWESOME to find someone who's done a similar trip.

Thanks so much! Reply to this

Hello Rhianna 😊

It should be possible to follow the same route as Oz bus does on the London to Sydney trips, shouldnt it?

Rhianna, It is recommended to gain good knowledge about buses, trains & weather of the countries before starting your trip.

Rhianna, sounds like an epic adventure! I know that in india the offer great train lines throughout and from my experience found it the best way to travel while there. there are plenty of travel agents about to help you with booking tickets, which is neccersary as trains fill quickly. i travelled by bus a bit but i found it slow, dirty and kindof dangerous. also crossing the border between india and pakistan can be difficult so i would look further into that. all the best

Thanks for the advice everyone! We're actually thinking about taking a plane from Thailand to India as it is going to be so complicated going through countries by land and having to worry about all the visas and everything. Also, we are almost positive that we're going to take a flight from India to Turkey because it's just two dangerous for 2 young (white) girls to go through Pakistan and Iran alone. From what I've researched Turkey is ok. Reply to this

Hello Rhianna 😊

There seems to be a lot of political trouble in Pakistan and Iran, at the moment. Probably wise of you to avoid it, since it would be somewhat unpredictable.

try and find that book about the girls who bought a tuk tuk in thailand and drove it back to London - its won awards and sounds like it would be inspiring for you.
