Looking for remote Orphanage to visit..
Hi travellers,
I am looking for some help here, in Jan myself and three friends are heading to India and we are looking to go to a orphange in the North, north of Delhi. I have found one on the border of India and Nepal which looks interesting http://www.indianorphanage.com/ but if anyone knows any others it will be much appricated. If possible not in cities, there are plenty I know but we are wishing to get to the less know, less 'helped' orphanages if we can.
I have travelled India in the past and know what to expect, well know one really knows what will happen in India 😊
Thanks,
Chris
Reply to this Also what is a good number of people to be travelling in India? It is one, two or maybe ten?
I understand it can be very chaotic there so smaller numbers be easy to get around you think, but maybe safety in numbers 😊
I have travelled there before but went solo which was fine for me but now i have a partner and friends may also like to come along with us also.
Any advice will be appricated.
Thanks,
Chris
Reply to this Hello Chris 😊
I dont think it matters how many people you travel around with. If you dont all fit in one hotel, there are always more nearby. And you can book trains in advance, to make sure you all get seats on the same one.

Reply to this Hi Chris,
For me I have been to India several times and I recommend the smaller the group the better. This is from experience as I have done solo travel as well as a group from eight to twelve on several occasions. A bigger group was too hard to organise once on ground in India, to difficult to organise transportation from city to city and even getting around a city is difficult. Standard in places to stay vary from opinion and price depending on quality as I am sure you noticed during your travel last time so this needs to be sorted out before hand. If you’re planning to do a tour group it may be fine since it is all organised for you all.
Where are you planning to go? Have the others travelled to India before? I have noticed you have been to India and travelled from North to Mumbai, where are you going to go this time? If you are flying into Delhi again where you’re going to go? You went to the main cities last time so your friends will want to go to those cities, you want to do the same trip again? Doubt it. But you asked about orphanages in the north so let’s hope you get some information about this, I have never made the effort to go to an orphanage so you will have a great experience. If you head south it should be a little better in a group as they are more use to westerners down there.
If you organise the trip in advance and you all get along (India can be testing for every emotion) it should be fine but for me two to four people is easy - six to eight testing - ten to twelve difficult.
Good luck
Reply to this Thanks for the information guys 😊
Mel do you know of any orphanages that we are able to go to maybe? Diana, my girlfriend has been before but in Africa but this will be a first time for me though. I am really looking forward to having a chance to do this!
Thanks again,
Chirs
Reply to this I dont know of any in India. But, you could also try visiting slums. The families there always need help. I generally gave homeless people with children in India my daughters too small clothes and things like oranges etc. I dont know the exact location of the slums in the places you are going, but you will certainly recognise people poor enough to appreciate your help, when you encounter them.
