Why do you actually have to pay to do some good? I'm qualified in teaching english, journalism and music. I also don't mind mucking in with anything else. I want to help out somewhere that really needs it. But I don't agree with paying middlemen for the privalege.
Can anyone help me with this problem. Frankly its becoming rather boring that it's impossible to work for nothing except board and lodging without paying to do so. These people call themselves charities but I have discovered that there is nearly always profit being made somewhere by someone. If anyone has any tips, advice, offers of work?! please get in touch. I would like to work in Africa, preferably in the fields mentioned ie education, journalism. I am looking for a three month minimum placement and will consider any options.
Reply to this Hi Tim,
You might want to check the following websites:
Idealist
and
Reliefweb
Both websites list job/volunteering opportunities so hopefully will be of some help!
I am myself working for the International Red Cross, heading to North Korea next :-)
Cheers
Laetitia
Reply to this I've found some amazing stuff here and am down to a choice between journalism in Ghana and teaching in Malawi. Thanks heaps Mel and Laetitia!
Reply to this I didnt know there are volunteer jounalists. What would you be reporting about?
Reply to this All sorts. They tailor your skills to the program. I was trained by the Disability Times in London and that is my field. I've covered stuff like disability rights and protests to wheelchair access at west end theatres, football matches etc and the Paralympics but check out the link if you want to know more.
