If an Egyption asks about the currency in Bucharest just punch him in the face for us. He asks about an egyption bank to get some currency out and asks if they use euros there. My boyfriend got his wallet out to show what the currency looks like and he touched it and managed to lift 6 notes (£70!). Seconds later a random guy turns up to distract you. So quick it was only when we checked later we noticed. Reply to this

This is probably one of the scariest scams I have read or heard about.

...The statements all ended in the words "I realize that I broke the Chinese law, I am sorry for that, and I understand that I need to pay a fine". Then we understood that it's just a tourist trap - the send people there, fine them, and make some extra money.

I almost got scammed a few times, in the last few years. Lucky for me that I realised what was happening and backed out before they managed to get any money out of me.

The last time I was actually scammed while travelling was in 1989 in Hungary. I was changing money on the blackmarket, and the money changer gave me some old and almost worth nothing notes. I should have known better than to change money on the blackmarket in Hungary. They were always robbing people.
