Heya! I will be in Iquique for a few months anyone know of the best places to go to and what to see while here? I'm also traveling solo so anywhere that I can meet young fun people would be great too!! Reply to this

Iquique is mainly about the beach, the Zofri (tax free) zone and enjoying the good climate.

The Isluga National Park is well worth an excursion.

The Pampa del Tamarugal where the hardy tamarugo trees manage to survive the desert conditions. It is about 70 kms from Iquique and is also worth a visit.
Iquique is just under 500 kms from Antofagasta, where you can visit the old 'saliteras', leftovers of the bygone days when the north was the richest region in the country.

A few km's outside Iquique are a deserted town and factory called Humberstone and Santa Laura, they make a great day out, especially if you like photography. You can get there and back cheaply and easily by public transport, the tours from Iquique are very expensive. Reply to this

I spent 4 months in the Iquique area back in 2005-2006, I loved every minute of it. I spent most of my time in Pozo Almonte about 1 hour into the desert from Iquique. You will defently have to make the trip to humberstone and the Salitera santa Laura, kind of spooke by cool as heck, I would also recommend going to playa brava amazing beach, might I add public transportation is the best way to go a couple bucks out to the desert and back Reply to this
