Besides flying, what is your favourite mode of transport or motion?

Do you buy or rent a car or motorcycle, travel by train, hitchhike, parachute, balloon, sail, walk, climb, rappel, dive, etc, etc?

We love the great American road trip.

But, we love trains, trains and more trains. We have not taken many but will before our time is up. One of our favorite train trips was going across Australia on the India Pacific Railway. We had a great train trip from Seattle to Vancouver, Canada.

There are many other train rides in our future. Reply to this

Modes of travel:
For speed and getting to your destination quickly, definitely an aeroplane.
Nothing beats a boat of any shape or size - gliding across the water, watching the scenery.
Train is also good for getting from A to B with scenery thrown in and you can sleep fairly comfortably as well.
Driving by car is great too and we have done a fair bit in a car - great to get to those out of the way places.
Walking is my next best way to see the world but ballooning is just awesome, especially when the burners are off and you drift in the direction the air moves to - that is more for relaxation though. Reply to this

Trains are the most comfortable and a great way to relax or catch up on sleep, reading, or working on your computer. They are more solid than planes and can withstand most weather conditions. I just wish there were more of them available worldwide. Reply to this

We love train travel too Jane. The Trans-Mongolian and Trans-Siberian train trips are high on Andrew's wish list, and the Ghan is high on mine... 😊 Reply to this

I'd say flying every time, even if only a 45 minute flight. I love getting to the destination as fast as I can so more time spent there.

Otherwise i'd have to say train now. Not that ive travelled on trains too much and my one overnighter from Italy to Germany involved my bags being stolen from under my head... but with kids, I really dislike driving as I cant sit beside them and keep them entertained. So trains would probably be good for that 😊

Ren and Drew, I don't want to wish my life away, but when I'm older, I can't wait to take the Ghan and even the Orient Express! I travelled around the US and Europe on the trains back in the 90s and met so many lovely people. Since being married, we have had so much fun in Japan on the trains, South Korea not so much, Vietnam was hilarious and China was as expected, but Dean prefers the destination - not so much the travel to it! Although, he did love his Thai train adventure many years ago. But, my latent trainspotting addiction may be put on hold for a few years.
Tam & family - I have also found that train travel has been a boon for us. Eleanor, Dean and I have spent many an hour playing cards, chatting to people in the dining car (and our seats!) and basically enjoying 'camping out' in our bunk beds. I think it's a great way to travel with children. Reply to this

Flying and travel by car, walking - this is for me...
Though flying sometimes make me nervous and be stressful, it's much speediest and you can get in every part of the world in few hours.
Travelling by car makes me wonderful! Driving a car is one of the best ways to see the sights and sounds, and often gives you the greatest suppleness when you decide to make spontaneous travel arrangement. You can stop wherever you want, and walk, make photos, may be pitch a tent etc. But it is not so comfortable to travel by own car. We tried to alternate flying, trains and rent a car. And it was good. We booked a car at rentalcars24h and when we had reached Malaga in Spain, took our car and moved to our amazing trip. Then we droped off it at Madrid and fly away. I think it rather convenient.

Nataly,

I agree with you. I love a good road trip. I love traveling the open road and deciding where and when to stop. On long drives the music can be selected to fit the scenery. Reply to this

Ensure that you are on time for your flight with the Heathrow Express. We operate a frequent timetable, with a train every 15 minutes and a travel. Reply to this
