Hi Almraya
I see we share a passion for photography.

And I have a big advantage - I live in Cape Town.

Cape Town is a city with about the same population as Chicago and have all the nice things you will find in a big city. Add to that the scenic splendour where mountains and oceans meet, the Cape winelands.... I can go on forever.

September is a good time to visit, and I would be happy to give you more specific info. Send me a PM and we can work out something for you.

What do you mean by this Faurec? Are you a travel agent or tour guide? Travel agents and tour guides are not allowed to advertise their services on these forums.

Mel,

I am a resident in the city that Almraya want to visit. I am also in a position to provide him with some knowledgable local advice on where to go/what to do, and that is my objective. I hope that is not a problem for you.

I am NOT in any way trying to advertise or promote a professional service.

Hi Faurec,
Its always best to travel with photographers, cause they are the most prepared and the most adventurer people in travel.

Im really glad that I found someone like you to provide me with knowledge and info, and for that I thank you. The things you said about the city encouraged me more. I will sure let you know if I am to visit Cape Town.

Regards,

One more think Faurec, would you mind posting the information on the forums(presuming it contains no advertising), so it will benefit all who are looking for this type of information. 😊

Mell,
No, I do not mind posting to the forum.

How much space do you allow?

What specific subject do I provide information on? - in general? or is our mutual friend more interested in something more specific like culture, history, nature, wildlife, action sport, food, wine, hiking, diving ... it can be a very long list and each can take longer than 5 days to see, and many more chapters to describe.

Accommodation is as varied. Do you want to stay in the city, along the Atlantic coast, along the south coast (which is as different from the Atlantic coast as is Brighton from Monaco), a mountain cabin, on a working wine farm, or anything in between. Do you prefer a Backpackers, star-rated hotel, European style B&B or traditional African? And all of that is available within 30minutes from the major tourist attractions of Cape Town.

As public transport is near non-existing, one can add a chapter on what is available, and maybe another chapter on how to travel on our roads where some drivers aim rather than drive.

Faure

So long as your are responding to a members questions, there is not a space limit.

Whatever members are asking about.

Hi Almraya

I'm sure I can't give as detailed and up to date info as Faure, but as a fellow tourist here are my highlights from Cape Town (I also spent 5 days there):

Climbing Table Mountain - if you are reasonably fit then I would definitely recommend making it a half day trip and climbing up rather than just getting the cable car up there.
Kirstenbosch Gardens are beautiful and lots of funky plants I hadn't seen anywhere else in the world and enjoyed photographing.
Robben Island was interesting, especially as I was reading Mandela's autobiography at the time.
The Cape peninsula makes for a fantastic day trip, especially the stunning Chapman's Peak drive. I loved seeing the penguins at Boulders Beach, but then I love seeing any wildlife.
The winelands are also worth a day trip or preferably a longer stay, especially if you enjoy the odd glass of vino. Even if you don't it is a picturesque area.
If you want to get good photos of Table Mountain there's a good viewpoint on the way out of the city north west I think (I'm sure Faure can tell you what the beach is called) or from Robben Is.
Good beaches around as well if you want that.

Obviously it depends what you are interested in but hope this helps with ideas.
Have a fantastic trip,

Faurec,
for accomodation i'd really like to stay close to the coast, the south coast or the atlantic, it makes no difference, whatever is closest to the city, and am really interested in doing, seeing and photographing new things, such as culture, wildlife, hiking, histoy...... etc

I'd like to thank you for showing such interest, you really make me wanna go there 😊

Frankwah,,
Thank you so very much for the information, as a beginning i think am having an idea on what to plan for and what to do overthere, but do you think that 5 days will be enough to come back with a good memories and photos ?
coz i only have 5 days of vacation in September, and them i will have to wait for a longer one in December Maybe. LOL

Thank you all guys, you are great 😱

Regards,

I think 5 days is enough to see the highlights and get a feeling for the city, as well as a day trip or 2 out of the city. You won't have much time to sit around and do nothing, but then if you only have a 5 day holiday you're probably not fussed about that anyway. It'll be a great trip, have fun! Reply to this

I have been to cape town...
Recommendations;
1)Walk down Table mountain! (Or up it as well if you are feeling brave). The scenery and views are so spectacular. It is quite breathtaking to see the town below you, and the mountain itself is incredible!!! Also, the 'Lions Head' rock, to the west of Table Mountain is worth a climb, then descend down signal hill into the town. (A good day's walk)
2)Take the day to visit Cape Of Good Hope. The landscape in that area is also awe inspiring. (Watch out for the guinea pig-like animals though, they're called 'Dassies' and don't take kindly to being petted as I found out!)
3)Spend a day or two in the town itself. The V&A waterfront has a number of attractions and shops. Good restaurants too.
4)Two INCREDIBLE restaurants which you MUST visit are; The Africa Cafe, and Marcos African Place. If you don't eat out anywhere else, eat in these two restaurants! They are both unforgettable.
5)Take the boat out to visit Robben Island. It is fascinating and moving.
6)For a two day trip, go and stay in the lovely little seaside fishing village of Arniston, to the southeast. The village is beautiful and the fisher's village next to it is equally so. The coast offers fine opportunities for walking and exploration of the sea caves and blowholes. Additionally, nearby is the REAL southernmost point of Africa; Cape Aghulas, which is worth a visit just for the novelty of it.

I hope i have helped you out a bit.
Have an amazing time in this amazing city!

If you have time and funds do the shark diving! I personaly enjoyed this day trip very much!
To be half a meter from a great white shark is a fantastic feeling!

Aproximate prices at the bottom of my entry about CT if you want to have a peak;

Hello,

Wildlife in Cape Town is great!

You could go to...

1 African Penguins,Simon’s town Boulders Beach (30min drive)

These lovely penguins are not common in the wildlife in Africa but you can find them in Cape Town and even swim with them at Simon's town Boulders Beach. , their home and breeding site. The beach is the perfect spot to have a nice swim in prestine clear water amongst the beautiful Boulders rocks. Have you ever swum with penguins? Now you'll be able to say 'Yes I did!' The penguins are right here with you while you're swimming!

It happened to me that they actually swam in between my legs! This is a special moment to remember for ever!

Do you know that when a male and female penguins choose each either it's for the rest of their life?! Ouah, we also have to learn a lot from them! ;-)

2 Touch cheetahs, Stellenbosch (30min drive)

Cheetahs are definitely part of the wildlife in Africa and you can even touch them at Spier.

3 Tenikwa wildlife awareness center, Plettenberg Bay (5hours drive)

Tenikwa is a magical center! I could not believe it when I walked with the cheetahs and… saw a puma few meters away from me!!!

4 Drakenstein Lion Park, Paarl (40min drive)

Is there anything more cutter than a little smoochy cub?!!! When people dream of the wildlife in Africa, they actually would also like to be able to interact with it and understand it better. Well, this park is going to make you understand how tough life can be for wild lions. They rescue lions in distress from all over Africa. You can even sleep in this park, if you like! It’s a sanctuary for captive born lions.

I advise you to go to to get more ideas.
