Hi guys,
A friend and I are planning on visiting greece in october when we have some time off work, our main reasons for visiting will be to visit sparta, see the statue of leonidas, and possibly try and find the hot gates i've taken a rough guess and assumed that this may be near leonidio?
basically, what im after is help and advice on booking a suitable trip, ive had some quotes for a flight and hotel and it looks like its gonna cost around 200gbp, but that would be in athens and id have to rent a car or use public transport to get to sparti and leonidio... i would much prefer to stay somewhere in arcadia, camping would be nice...can you see where im going with this?
if anyone would like to meet us out there for a few drinks or whatever, you can get in touch with me on
we are both 24 year old guys, down to earth, good fun and love to meet new people from south wales in the uk!

If you want, you could make a separate thread about this, in the Looking for Travel Companions Forum.

Reply to this Hi, I don't think you will have a problem going to Sparta on the overland bus (called KTEL, their website should have schedules), it is very cheap. You could also take the train to Korinthos (should be a direct connection from Athens airport but don't know how often) or Tripolis and go by bus from there. Sparta is not a very exciting town but the surroundings are beautiful. You shouldn't have any problem camping as long as you ask for permission, this is not a very touristy area so the locals will probably be happy to see a stranger and I don't think you will have any problems to get to talk to the locals even if you only speak English. Enjoy your trip.
