well, this site isn't exactly short and sweet, but it's helpful:

Hi Laura (and Steph)

I only spent a few days in Slovenia but it was a beautiful country from what I could see. Ljubliana (or however you spell the capital city) is a pretty city and compact so you can walk around it, nice restaurants alongside the river and good views from the castle. We stayed at Hostel Celica which is a converted prison so makes for some very interesting rooms - they still have bars on the windows and local artists have come in to decorate.

Lake Bled is a good day trip from Ljubliana or I think it would make a good base for walks in the mountains. The lake is postcard stunning and you can swim, hire a boat, walk etc.

Have a great trip! Reply to this

Ljubljana is a bit boring, but i stayed in the Hostel Celica and drank some cheap beer with other backpackers which made it a worthy stop. I went out the Lake Bled after for some canyoning, rafting, biking... but it rained nearly the entire time! I will head back there because it is a beautiful area with good food and very nice people. Book slightly in advance though, because there is only one hostel with 8 beds.. i think

Lake Bohinj is also good, i did a little hike up mt sija there and was able to see italy from the top, that was cool... lots of places to see and lots of things to do, i will go back Reply to this
