Another question I just thought about...seems like all the travel insurance companies I've looked into won't cover skydiving, so did you all dive uninsured while on your travels or does the particular skydiving place have their own type of insurance for sale? Not saying this would necessarily stop me from doing it but it would suck if I came in too fast and broke something as I was trying to land and had to pay for an expensive med bill. Reply to this

I went skydiving when I was back in Australia a few weeks ago - and they got us to sign all kinds of forms saying they wouldn't be liable for any injury. If you follow the instructions properly its really unlikely you're going to injure yourself (however saying that, when my Mum went skydiving a few years ago a girl broke her ankle on landing but she didn't put her feet up!) I would definitely do it if I were you - there is nothing quite like jumping out the back of a plane! Lara Reply to this

It's standard practice in the States to sign away all imaginable rights. In fact, I actually stopped reading the waiver form (highly unlike me) because it was so ridiculous -- "I agree to release and hold Company harmless from any injury or harm to me which results from any action, or inaction, including, but not limited to, negligence, gross negligence, ... failure to provide me with a parachute and intentionally pushing me out of the airplane knowing that death is certain to occur." Whether or not those waivers will be enforceable in a court of law, now that's another question… but if you sign a waiver form like that, the insurance company would likely be able to obtain a copy and weasel out of providing any coverage (even if it was covered). Hi Danny,

If you jump as a tandem passenger you have no role other than to enjoy the ride - and of course do what the tandem master tells you, like lifting your feet up just before landing as laandal mentioned.

Can't comment on drop zones outside of New Zealand, but I know some here include insurance for the jump.

The parachutes have a second canopy packed away there as a reserve (not counting the drogue chute they throw out as soon as they stabilise, to slow down the speed to nearer that of a single jumper), and should also carry an automatic activation devise - neither of which I ever saw required.

Good question Danny. I'm currently around Phuket, and honestly, I have never seen it in Thailand...but if somebody knows about it, I'm more than interested. Reply to this

Re msg 19

I have heard that you don't remember much of it because you’re so pumped with adrenalin? 15 000ft should do the job for me.

Pumped with adrenalin, and also because it is a completely new environment - sensory overload.

I think you'll find quite a bit of a price difference between say 12,000 ft and 15,000 ft. My advice if it is your first time is to go for the lower and cheaper option. At that level of experience you won't notice the difference - but your wallet will!!

DO DO DO pay for video AND still photos if at all possible - well worth it (^_^) Reply to this

My first jump was 20 some years ago north of Dallas Texas. A girlfriend talked me into a tandem jump. The airplane was an old Cessna with the seats out. It was also my very first airplane ride. We went to 14,000 feet MSL and jumped! WAHHHHHOOOOOO!!! LOL. I loved it so much that I went through AFF and started jumping regularly. It also launched a flying career. I got to know the jump pilot and he encouraged me to start flying. One thing led to another and eventually I went pro.

I want to try skydiving even though I hate heights. I'm hoping I'll get the chance in America. Would be great to say I've done it. Is there much difference to jumping at 13000ft to 15000ft? Reply to this

hi Aamerica,

Welcome to TravelBlog.

If you haven't jumped before you won't notice the difference between 13000ft and 15000ft. Reply to this
