I am hoping to travel from Siem Reap to Ko Chang in November could somebody suggest to me possible routes of travel? Should i expect any problems? Are the roads ok considering its the end of rainy season and will i have any problems crossing the border?

Hi there,

The best way you can travel from Siem Reap to Koh Chang is from Siem Reap to Poi Phet/Aranyaprathet (the border between Cambodia and Thailand) takes by overland transfer around 3.5-4 hours (as long as I remember there are the hired car/ chartered taxi/ bus to the border) and then travel from Sakaeo to Trad Province by public bus. Probably you charter any car to the pier.

From the bus station in Trat, you can continue your journey by either chartered taxi or by public pickups (Songthaow) to the piers around Laem Ngop. It takes around 20 - 30 minutes There are some piers around Laem Ngop which you can take the ferry to the east coast or west coast of Koh Chang. Maybe you stay overnight somewhere like before taking a ferry next day. I suppose that it would be ok because of the end of rainy season but it is drizzle and you might bump along the track in the car....

Please note that Aranyaprathet is located in Sakaeo Province.

you won't have a lot of choice, as the one road runs directly west from Siam Reap to the border. A choice of bus or shared taxi - the road is long and dusty and bumpy so the bus is a pain, but not the worst in the world, and if you can fill a taxi its not much more than the bus, more comfortable and probably have air con. As above, 3-4 hours.

At the border just ignore the touts and walk straight through, past the mega-casinos in no mans land and deal with the touts on the thai side!

There are buses, and they take about 3 hours to get to the coast, but my advice would be to get there early as they all stop running pretty early.
You'll be used to rising early for Angkor Wat, so see if you can get out about 6am, and you'll probably be on chang for sundown!

I wouldn't book with any one in SR who claims to take you all the way through - they'll dump you at the border and leave you.

If you're travelling at the weekend, you may want to book ahead as the islands get busy with bangkok weekenders. I discovered that last year!
