Does this Itinerary make sense? (France, Spain, Germany, Austria, Switzerland)

Pretty much have two weeks and I want to visit Spain, Austria, Germany, and Switzerland. I came up with this itinerary in 30 minutes, just want some feedback. Places that aren't in the schedule but I desire to see are Bertchesgaten and a concentration camp (I'm a WW2 buff)!

The only thing I do know is that we arrive in Paris August 15th, have to be back in Paris the 21 to pick someone up, and leave Paris to Toronto the 29th. Anything between there is open still.

I chose Barcelona over Madrid just because I heard it's more gothic and better food, that's about it. Feel free to chime in. I'd love to see some scenic places in Austria and Switzerland, but haven't done enough research yet, so I picked Vienna and Zurich since they're convenient transportation-wise. Also feel free to chime in if you have any tips on scenic areas I might want to see. I also want to see a concentration camp (which I haven't fit in yet) and Berlin. Maybe I have a little too much in this itinerary? I want to see so many places, yet there's so little time to do it in!

*Note that we rented a car to drive the whole trip.

Thanks in advanced guys, I know you'll try to help out! Honestly if you have any experience with any of these places, let me know, since I plan on changing this up based on what you guys recommend!

August 15 – Paris to Normandy (3 hours drive)
16 – Normandy to Barcelona (est. 11 hours drive)
17 – Barcelona
18 – Barcelona
19 – Barcelona to Monaco (6 hours)
20 – Monaco
21 – Monaco to Paris (10 hours)
22 – Paris
23 – Paris to Zurich (8 hours)
24 – Zurich to Vienna (8 hour)
25 – Vienna
26 – Vienna to Berlin (8 hours)
27 – Berlin
28 – Berlin to Paris (10 hours)
29 - Paris

Hey,

Driving from Vienna to Berlin, assuming you plan to go through the Czech Republic you should pass close to Terezín, which is definitely worth a visit if you're interested in WW2 and concentration camps - otherwise there's the Sachsenhausen memorial just north of Berlin which you could comfortably fit in around there somewhere.

If you want to see scenic places, I would allow an extra day for the Zürich to Vienna bit and just stop wherever you feel like along the way. You can't get much more scenic than going right across Austria! Also, you might enjoy going across the Pyrenées from France to Barcelona more than taking the coast route.

Too much driving! we hired a car for 35 days and drove south from Paris to Riveaira, Pisa Florence Rome Garda Innsbruck, Interlaken Herbolzheim,Luxembourg. We wanted to do s many countries as poss which we did but it was too much!

Normandy to Barcelona in 11 hours..and drive right past Chateaux in Loire valley, Roccamadore, carcassone etc etc. Why?!

U seem to want cities?..fair enough. Why not put your friend on train to Zurich..or better still just use overnite trains to get to the cities u want to?

Basically I think its too much and u will miss any ambience. Reply to this

I think it's too much driving and too little time to rest.
I took a trip by car from Portugal to Barcelona, wasn't driving and still took me a whole day to recover... I don't really thjink you are being reallistic with the time of the trips, you have to take in consideration that you need to take an half and hour a break at least every 4 hours of driving... unless you're are not the only person driving the car, of course.

Anyway, just for example, Monaco to Paris being a 10 hour ride, just spending one day in Paris is just not enough. You'll need that day to rest and have no time at all to visit such an amzing city..

This is just my thoughts on the matter of course, you should draw your own conclusions by yourself. =) Reply to this
