I am taking a Canadian Rockies vacation and am very excited about seeing Jasper. How many days should I stay in Jasper before getting back on the train and heading to the coast?

Hi Sands:

I too will be in the Canadian Rockies this summer although I will be limited as to what I can do since I'll have my kids. If you are solo, TAKE AS LONG AS YOU CAN. And don't just limit yourself to Jasper; Banff and Yoho right next door are must-sees as well. If you are into hiking at all, this is the place for it. Take a GPS with you and pepper spray in case of bears and get out into the "real world". If you have specific questions about the area I am more than happy to respond...

I've lived in Alberta all my life and have gone to the Rockies on many occasions. I don't think bear spray is a bad thing to carry with you but I don't know anyone personally that has one. If you're just going on the marked dayhike paths you shouldn't really have a problem. I've never felt afraid. If you do plan on getting bear spray just keep in mind that if its stored in your backpack, its not going to do you a lot of good.

The Miette Hotsprings are worth a go to if you're in Jasper. They are fairly touristy though and you'll need a car to get to because its not exactly in town. The Valley of Five Lakes day hike is really nice though its also outside of the town of Jasper.

i live in jasper right and work as a tour guide....your time frame totally depends on what
you want to do......there is a lot if driving so rent a car if possible...its a added expence but will allow you to see more..
some things you could do are
1. maligne lake - boat cruise or rent a canoe and paddle around...this road is the best place to see animals,so take a nice drive in early morning
2. pyamid lake - picnic area
3. miette - relax after a good hike
4. tonquin valley - 52km hike beautiful view but bad for mozzies
5. jacque lake trail - 22km hike to a picture perfect lake and good chance to see moose.
6. horseshoe lake - a hidden place but great for cliff jumping (ask around)
7. local beach - huge sandbar for frizbee and wakeboarding
if you want more info msg me Reply to this

My husband and I went to Jasper in the winter two years ago. We loved it so much that we decided to explore it again in the summer. Reading this thread just reminds me of so much of our trip. I'd like to share one of my photos with you all. The beauty of Canadian Rockies in the winter just took my breath away. Happy Travel Reply to this
