volunteering on very low budget...
I will be traveling to quito in june with my 9 year old son. I need to book a safe, kid friendly place to stay the night. Anyone have suggestions of which would be better a hostel or hotel, and could you recommend the name?
Reply to this there are many safe hotels and hostels
" secret garden hostel" is nice , its a friendly backpackers place which is atmospheric by day and quiet after midnight. though i didnt see any other 9 year olds when i was there, i think it would be fine . the owner even has two little boys himself. they have private double rooms for about 20 dollars and dorms for around 7 dollars
best thing about secret garden is they do a communal dinner in the evenings on the rooftop terrace which has a stunning view of colonial quito. the hostel itself is situated just on the area between the old and the new part of town. they have a security guard at night and they see whos coming in by camera before letting them in.
theres another hostel just around the corner from it called "san blas", its quieter, more (hotel-ish) its cheaper and it is definitly kid friendly as it is run by a family of ecuadorians and there were even kids and a dog running around there when i was there. also they have TVs in the rooms.
here are some links i found to both

enjoy! :-)
Reply to this thank you for the insight!!! I will check out both places.
Reply to this Hello Kari 😊
When I was in S. and C. America hostels and hotels gave me the rooms with the best locks on the doors and the ones that were closest to the reception, probably I was a women alone. Even the cheapest hostels and hotels were like this. I think, the same will happen when you are there with a child. I think people will be very considerate of your safety and needs as a women with a child in other ways too.

It is very nice to get some positive feedback! I feel really confident we will be taken well care of. Can't wait to share my adventures in the near future! =D

Reply to this Yes, do share. I for one am always interested in hearing about how travelling with a child went in the various countries, because I sometimes travel with mine. 😊
