Hi,
I'll be going to Jakarta next week for 2 weeks for work. Its short notice, and I know nothing about the place. I am staying towards the south of the city.
If anyone has any information about what to do there, what to avoid, how safe it is, and how much I should expect to pay for a beer, the advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Reply to this There's enough to keep you occupied in Blok M and the Kemang Area.
For sights, start with a walk around the Fatahillah Square in Kota. Historic buildings and a few interesting Museums. Pop in and have coffee at the Cafe Batavia. Pricey but atmospheric.
The port of Sunda Kelapa is also close by. Great photo ops with the Makkassar schooners berthed, unloading cargo by stevedores.
I find the National Museum well laid out.
You might want to take the train to Bogor and visit the lovely Botanical Gardens. Well worth the 1 hour train ride.
A vacant afternoon can be spent browsing the antique shops in Jalan Surabaya. Its in the Menteng area and is moderately interesting.
