Hi fellow globetrotters!

ive quite last minute decided with a travel companion to go to china for a month in june/july this yr and im looking for suggestions of places to visit in and around china? After a day of searching i have come up with an itinery that starts in hong kong, then going up to xi-an to see the terracotta army and then onto beijing to see the great wall but im looking for more ideas on this!

Also where is the most scenic part of great wall!?

and is this fairly achievable in a month?

thanks Al and Ellie

hi, ajbetts. i am glad that you'll come to china for sightseeing. you have one month time staying in china, it is enough to have a tour of 'real china life touching' not only terracotta army. like going to loess plateau to find troditional china there. it is not far from terracotta army. if you are interested in it, you can just email me or skype me. if you need a guide who can show you around in xi'an. i am also avillable of course...see you soon..

Hi Al and Ellie,
There are 8 sections Great Wall in Beijing. I think from BEST they are Gubeikou, Jinshanling, Simatai, Jiankou, Mutianyu, Huanghuacheng, Badaling, Juyongguan Great Wall.
Get more information:
Mutianyu is easy to go and better one.

Based on your information the follow route just for your reference:
Hong Kong (3 days) through Shenzhen by train to Guilin & Yangshuo (5 days), Kunming & Dali & Lijiang (7 days), Chengdu (2 days), Xian (2 days), Shanghai (3 days), Suzhou (2 days), Hangzhou (2 days), Beijing (5 days) ONE month 31 days trip. Please PM me and give you the itinerary day by day.

I would suggest to go for:
Hainan Island, Hainan Province, South China
Huangshan Mountain, Anhui Province, East China
Forbidden City, Beijing, North China
Night view of Shanghai, East China
Tian an men Square, Beijing, North China
Night view of the Great Wall, Beijing, North China

Yes, a month is long enough for you to get an almost around-China tour including several tourist cities like Beijing, Xi'an, Tibet, Shanghai and Hongkong. You can google keywords like then you can find more itineraries. They’re more knowledgeable about China and you can get more specific information.
The Mutianyu Section part of Great wall is a bit farther from the downtown, but it’s less visited and more beautiful.
Any question?I'm glad to be of help.

Ajbetts, I was recently researching China in anticipation of my holiday in January. I allotted 1 month to China and worked on the following itinerary.

Fly into Hong Kong 5 days + a day trip to Macau (spelling?)
Catch an overnight train (20 hrs) to Shanghai spend 4 days
Catch an overnight train (16hrs) to Xi'an spend 4 days
Catch an overnight train (10 hrs?) to Chendu spend 2 days
Catch 2 trains (23 hrs?) to Beijing spend 7 days

Of course you can save time if you fly but I would like to experience how the Chinese travel, I think it would be a great experience!

I'd like to know what you decide on, it may help me with my trip preparations :D Reply to this

Dear Al and Ellie,
as i know, the Great Wall at Badaling session if fairly nice during this time; a lot kind of flower bloom...
but Mutianyu session is more available and aslo great to see...
i don' know how much you hnow about china and what you are intersted to experiance...and i highly suggest you to think about a cruise trip along the Yangtze River to see the splendid views and the Three Gorges Dam. you can first go to xi'an,then get onbroad 4 or 5star cruise at chongqing caotianmen pier, then go the Yellow Mountain and shanghai or hongkong, at last Beijing...
if you want some specific information, you can visit
