Things to do outside the city
15 years ago, April 17th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #69914
Hi, I'm traveling by train though europe in and will be in Madrid for about 5 days toward the end of July and wanted to take a day trip outside the city. Is there any thing I must see or do outside the city? I am traveling by myself and really want to experiance the culture of the area. Thanks! Reply to this

Hello Tyler 😊

I havent been to Toledo, but a lot of people recommend it. As far as I know it is just a few hours by train from Madrid.

Yes, Mell is right. Toledo is about 1 1/2 hour bus ride from Madrid and it is well worth seeing. We have been twice, you can see photos on our blog.

Segovia is a 2 hour bus ride away and has an increadible old aquaduct. You can also visit the monestary at El Escorial or the palace at Aranjuez. They are about 1 hour away and both worth seeing.

You can also visit the Casa de Campo. It's a big area of parkland just on the outskirts of the city. It's great just to walk around the area, maybe have a picnic. There is also a cool zoo there as well as an amusement park. A good way to get there is by cable car from the city.

Have a good time.

I would really recommendEl Escorial. It's about 1 hour from Madrid city and it's such a peaceful place in the mountains. Go in summer when the city is hot! :D Reply to this
