We're early-30's (if you average us out), couple going on the equivalent of a honeymoon/thesis completion celebration and are looking for cool attractions (ie:Volcano stuff), and great restaurants and night life.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Reply to this Hello Vanessa 😊
I moved this to the Africa forum.

Reply to this Thanks! 😊 Does it count as Africa? We booked here thinking it was Spain (serious lack of geography) and thought we'd have a short flight, hahaha. Oops. Should it be in a Spain forum?
Reply to this I think it belongs to Spain, but is off the coast of Africa. 😊
Reply to this Hire a car and drive around the island. It's increadibly diverse in terms of environment and has some amazing things to see.
The North gets the bulk of the rain and thus is very green, there are lots of plantations and forests. The South is very dry and has some desert like areas.
Plus of course it is a volcano and so a lot of the landscape and the coast is larval. You can drive part of the way up the volcano and explore some great landscapes. It was the scene of many cowboy movies. If you are feeling energetic you can walk to the top. You walk most of the way up the night before and stay overnight in a hut. You get up before dawn and trek to the summit and watch the sunrise.
The Canaries have over 1/3 of the world's cetaceans (whales and dolpins) passing through the waters every year and Tenerife has resident populations of short-finned pilot whales and bottle nosed dolphins. There are many whale watching trips out of Los Christianos and Playa de Las Americas and Los Gigatas in the South that can guarantee sightings.
To get some really good local food eat in a local restaurant. Make sure you eat patatas arigardas (pretty sure that's spelt wrong - it's Canarian potatos to you and me), small wrinked spuds cooking in salt and dipped into red or green sauce. Yum. You also get some great hams and cheeses. And to drink Canarian Caramel is abit like Baileys.
Visit some smaller towns like Masca, Candellaria and Guimar. Get out of the main tourist cities and explore.
Although the Canaries are geographically located in Africa, since they are Spanish and also a massive holiday destination for Brits, you might get more responses from the Europe forum....
Have fun.
