Travelling through Central America in 4 months
15 years ago, April 7th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #68602
Hi guys,

I have also posted in the South American section of this forum but I have a question regarding Central America. My plan is to be landing in Mexico beginning of September and move down in order to be in Colombia for Christmas. That means I have 4 months. Time should be ok, but my concern is about weather. I will probably be in Honduras around october or november, which is the Hurricans season. Is that a good idea? Has any of you been there during these months?

Thanks!

I would think that you would be OK. As you know hurricanes usually come in on the Atlantic, Caribbean side, and there is plenty of warnings ahead of time. October is rainy season in that part of the world, but rain should not deter you. I lived in Costa Rica 8 years and write a travel blog all about C Rica. Please check it out at I have posted safety tips on travel in C Rica, weather patterns, unique places to visit , and much more. Good luck!

Ann,

Could you please provide the link to your blog please?

To all, would you reconsider going to Mexico with the new Swine Flu? I have not reconsidered it so far, lets see the news during the following weeks.

Other question, I have heard that you need a flight back when you land in Mexico (same as other countries) in order to get your visa. Has anyone had trouble with only the single one-way ticket?

Thanks for your help!!! Reply to this

This sounds like quite an adventure of a trip you have planned through central america. The weather with the hurricanes won't be a problem, there is plenty of updates with the news, and you can plan accordingly. It will be quite rainy on the pacific coasts. Pissing rain at times. Great place to stop while you are in San Jose Costa Rica is . I loved it there, great roof over your head for those rainstorms, hehe or in spanish jeje. pura vida, Paul

Hi, I have not had the experience, however, My first impression is that you cannot enter Mexico with a one way ticket- since you are not a Mexican Citizen. i am on world wide web costa rica learn dot com (without any spaces between the words)
I would not travel to Mexico now. USA has a travel warning against it. Wait until the flu epidemic has subsided. Good luck Ann Reply to this

Im doing something similar to you, but arriving in mexico start of october (pending how the swine flu status is) heading over to cuba then back in to belize and bump around central america and cover as much as possible before getting a yacht ride from panama to colombia and be there for new yrs and then traveling around south america until the end of april

we have put aside just under 3 months to do mexico/cuba and central america which i know will be a rush at times but if anyone has any places are a must to visit and places that we could skip it would be appreciated
