Looking for help in planning a vacation in China
15 years ago, April 5th 2009 No: 1 Msg: #68325
Anyone have information about tour companies for Americans visiting China? Looking for a tour that gives us some free time to explore on our own, don't want to be on a bus the whole time. Want to see Beijing and Xian. Is getting a personal guide a good idea? Reply to this

A guide can help you to understand the history and insights at the scenic spots while he can also tell you the interesting areas at local city. Contact for help, she can arrange a good beijing & xian tour together with a private car...

If you have time "doing it on your own" is worth while, but if you don't have time to say book hotels, transport etc then I suggest getting all your accommodation and transfers (transport such as trains/air) pre-booked as this saves time. I mean you don't want to spend all day in a line just to buy your train tickets, which can happen in China.

Once you have all your transport/accommodation organized then you will have plenty of time doing what you want and not have to follow with a tour group

Good bi-lingual maps are good idea too Reply to this

You will find a lot of China travel companies when you searching China tours or China travel in Google. Just select the top five companys. If you are the first time to China, BeijingXianShanghai, guilin are the places you should visit. They are the top cities that attracts most of the travelers home and abroad.

You can find a personal guide. Also you can include Shanghai in your routine. Reply to this

You could reserve the hotels Beijing and Xi'an. When you arrive at the hotel, you could ask them to arrange the local tour for you. <snip>

I have a dream, someday I can travel around China at a time, to get a wide horizon from my motherland--China.
In April I will have time to make the dream come true.
I am planing a special idea, that is to find a pal from America to accomplish the tour together. It must be wonderful.
My age is 24, graduated form Guangzhou University two years ago. I am in southern China, Guangzhou, the city which has held 2010 Asian Games.
If you have time and interest in it, come contact me as soon as possible. Or I will start my
tour alone.
Here is my email <snip> .

I am not allowed to leave my web site but I do have my blog listed in Asia Blogs that you can go to with information on travel in China. I have been there 51 times in 22 years travelling through out the country. Much depends on your intersts as it is a big country and so many different areas to visit with over 57 nationalities. Just keep reading blogs here and determine what you like. It is not difficult to travel in China if you stay to the large cities. Getting into the back country you really need a guide and travel service. Local guides in my mind MAKE YOUR TOUR as they know the areas and can show you things and places that you may not find on your own. I remember having lunch in a small village where Dr. Ho a famous Chinese Traditional Medicine doctor and researcher lived. Most people walked right past his home/clinic without realizing he was there. He also has a Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum and School located there and everyone walking by missed it. China is full of interesting places and sites and a guide is the key to really enjoying the culture. Sometimes without a guide it is like going into a new town and trying to pick out a good restaurant without help and perhaps passing by a fantastic restaurant without knowing it. Reply to this
