What can I expect during the Bon festival in Japan? If you have been to the Bon festival, share your experiences and advice. If you have made blogs or photos of the Bon festival, post the links on this thread.
Hi Everyone,
I happen to be traveling to Tokyo for vacation during the Obon festival. My son and I will arrive at Narita on August 8th (my birthday!) and my wife will join us on August 12th. We plan to stay for 10 nights and return on the 18th. Can someone be so kind as to tell me how the Bon Festival will affect our visit?
For example will the Tsukiji fish market, Akihabara and other places be closed down at anytime during the festival? I have read about how difficult it is to travel during certain periods of times during Obon I am a little worried that we may have picked the wrong time to visit for getting around and seeing sites as people will be occupied with the festival. Can someone give me some assurances?
Thanks in advance for quick responses.

Reply to this Hi Donnie :-)
Didn't notice this thread sorry.
I think the fish market is closed 15-17 August - aim for a weekday outside of that.
I'm pretty sure Akihabara will be open right through.
Obon is more about Japanese people travelling to their home town, so a lot of people do leave the big cities.
I haven't been in Tokyo for an Obon yet, so can't give so much info there sorry.
