I will be traveling to New Zealand and will be arriving in the north island in a couple weeks time. I heard there are some great rafting trips up there, but have also heard that many of them are over rated. I have done quite a bit of rafting and wanted to see the different trips that some of you have done and what you recommend.
Thanks!
Reply to this Don't knowfor the North, but did the Shotover 2 weeks ago in Queenstown...they sell it as an adrenaline class IV ride. Water was a little low, but for me it was clearly over rated....now I may be seriously spoiled as I've done the Zambezi.
Whatever, the trip was fun, and views were amazing.

Reply to this I had an awesome time on the Shotover, if you go into the Queenstown Rafting office they'll hook you up with whichever level you want. They had a lot of rain this year so the rivers are quite high. I never did the Zambezi though, so who knows!
The views are outstanding whatever happens. It was scary enough for me ;-)

Reply to this Is this a commercial trip or a private one? The commercial trip will store and secure communal gear on the rafts in watertight bags. You will be offered watertight bags for your personal gear. Private trips will do the same except members will supply the bags. Find out what is suggested for gear and clothing. Commercial trips will supply PFDs and helmets. Private trips will require you to supply your own.
