Tips for travel - to and from Mexico City with some stop overs south to San Cristobal de las Casas
Can anyone suggest the best way to travel through from Oaxaca to San Cristobal de las Casas to Puerto Escondido back to Oaxaca - are there good internal flights we dont have much time (2 weeks) and dont want to do the long bus trip from Oaxaca to San Cristobal de las Casas

I think I travelled from Oaxaca to San Cristobal. I was in both places at least when I was in Mexico. I used busses for getting from place to place. They ran frequently, were inexpensive and a lot safer than taking trains(at least that was the case when I was in Mexico).
Dont know anything about internal flights. Hopefully somebody else can provide that information.

Reply to this Hey mary, as mell said ther buses are pretty good but there is no train service anymore. Can take the over night bus and then dont miss out on a day, they pretty comfy and easy to sleep on.
Google aerotucan, they do flights from oaxaca to the coast (i checked about 2 months ago and was about 1000 pesos) but i ended up taking the bus as is fair bit cheaper, but does take 7 hours. Ive heard the flight over the mountains is pretty amazing and worth the $ if its a clear day. As for flights from oaxaca to sc, i dont think there is direct flights, might have to go via mexico city. Look up mexicana, click mexicana and aviacsa. San Cristobal doesnt have an airport, you have to go to Tuxtla Gutierrez and then catch bus to sc.
i just looked it up on mexicana, is less than 1000 pesos from oaxaca to tuxtla (via mex), so doesnt cost that much more than bus.
