Looking to get from Lima, or near to, down to Santiago. I know some people recommended buses and that internal flights are not cheap so was just wondering if anyone has done it and can offer any advice.

Thanks a lot Reply to this

hi tom!

why do you say the internal flights are not cheap?

probably you have been loking at the "LAN" website

i flew with "sky airlines" from arica to santiago for 87 or so dollars. this 4 hour flight saved me a 30 hour bus ride with "pullman bus" which (first class) was going to cost me around 60 dollars anyway if i remember correctly.

the same flight stops in iquiqe and antofagasta along the way to let off or take on passengers.
and they sreve an ok meal too and gave sweets and coloring books to the children. though i was a little hurt that they didnt give me any sweets :P

not sure about your best way to arica from lima, but good peruvian bus companies to keep in mind would be "cruz del sur, peru" and "ormeño".

google them and you will fnid ther websites.

ormeño does a 44 hour bus the whole way to santiago. but perhpas you can remove 26 hours from this if you hop out at arica to take the plane the rest of the way!
note that the sky airlines website is a bit wonky but they can take reservations over he phone.

maybe ther are better options but thats my 2 cents anyhow

best of luck!
matt

I took the scenic trip from Lima to Santiago and back by bus and was pretty pleased with the experience. You can go either with Ormeño or El Rapido del Norte...but make sure this is something you would enjoy...if you are not "that" adventurous try getting a deal with LAN. Reply to this
