Is there a job shortage in Sydney?

Has the global recession hit australia hard?

I will be heading to Sydney in late March and will be looking to get a job ASAP.

Can anybody who has recently visited suggest whether there are many jobs in Sydney or is there a shortage just like in the UK?

Thanks. Reply to this

I'm from Melbourne not Sydney so I can only speak for us. We haven't been hit nearly as hard as England. However, the retail business is feeling the pinch and cutting back hours. I'm sure you'd be able to find work in hospitality, but don't expect many tips, we're not a tipping country.

What sort of work are you looking at getting? Often I find the best way to find work is the wander around with resumes and hand them in to places with signs on the window. Such places often don't advertise. I know in Melbourne the Crown Casino is a big recruiter, perhaps The Star Casino in Sydney would be a good place to apply for jobs? They have a high turnover and you may be able to apply before you even leave.

I'm wanting to go to England to work later in the year. Do you think I'm dreaming? A family member over there told me that I have no chance... Reply to this

I live in Sydney and like Stacey said, the retail industry has been hit hard but outside of that the traditional casual/temp work is still thriving. Bar work in the city is always available if you look hard enough, office temp jobs around the CBD and North Sydney are still available easily through agencies and call centres are full of backpackers, especially from the UK.

Good luck and I hope this helped 😊 Reply to this
