Backpacking in Mexico is ideal, great first class bus service to just about anywhere.
Check primera plus, Chihuahuenses, and ADO on the web for bus info.
I have traveled the country on first class buses, usually Primera Plus, Futura, and ADO. These are the best in my opinion.
it is safe and convenient and stilll cheap although they have been upgrading both equipment and price lately.
You never need to book in advance. There are many buslines serving the same locations and often from the same terminals. You always have choice and options
