I like to 'read up' a bit on places before I travel. Both factual and fiction. I hope to go to Easter island in November 2009. Suggestions for books other than guide books would be appreciated. I found some books by Jo Anne Van Tilburg--very interesting. Also the Easter Island Foundation website is good. There don't seem to be many novels set on Easter Island - I've only come across 'Easter Island' by Jennifer Vanderbees and 'Tangata manu' by Roger Poole so far. Any others?
Thanks
Reply to this Collapse by Jared Diamond has a long chapter about Easter Island. His book is about how societies decline and fall and his theory about EI is interesting.
Also look out for anything by the Norweigan explorer, Thor Heyerdahl. I've read his Kon-Tiki book, which is great and I think he's written a couple of books on EI too.
