Hi All,

With all the unrest in Tibet in the past couple of months, I wanted to know if it is dangerous to travel there at the moment?

If anybody has been there lately, I would love to hear your views on this.

Thank you Reply to this

hi, it is too cold to travel in Tibet now, I was there in September and everything looked fine. The best time touring Tibet is from June through September. Reply to this

Perfect time to visit!....before the real rainy season, and you should have a good chance to see the top of Mt. Everest, if it is early June. I suppose unrest could happen at any time there....or for that matter, many other places in the world. Go and enjoy! It is an amazing place, and we love it there! Read the guide books and try to go to some out of the way places. One of personal favorites was Samye Monastary.

Hi Dellboy,

I was in Tibet during late October, 2008. I had no problems getting around but it was getting colder and near the end of the tourist season. Politically, the usual precautions apply. There were lots of Chinese Army soldiers in and around Lhasa but once out in the countryside and smaller towns, there presence was less. Lhasa is a Chinese city and the least interesting part of the trip. Get to the smaller places and experience the real Tibet. I had a wonderful guide and driver and they helped me with everything including how not to annoy the army. One tip; the Chinese Army has no sense of humour and in no circumstance should you try to take photos of them or pose for a shot on one of their armoured personnel carriers. They don't like that one little bit!

Good luck and feel free send me a private message if you want more info.

Brian.

Thanks for the more current info. We return to Tibet in early fall. I agree, get out of Lhasa. Reply to this
