Going to Tokyo, Japan in two weeks, any suggestions/advice/comments for a girl traveling alone?

Hello all,

I am planning a trip to Tokyo, Japan for roughly two weeks next month and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, things to see, tips, ideas, etc for a girl who is traveling by herself. I have never been to Japan before, and although I know a bit of Japanese and a lot about the culture, it never hurts to get more info. Also, if anyone will be in Japan next month I would not be opposed to meeting up somewhere for a traveling buddy through the city! Reply to this

I am japanese . I am sorry about my poor Enlish.
In Tokyo, It is very convenient to use SUBWAY. Please go to see " Tokyo metro " site.

You can know how to use the subway, and how to make sightseeing plan.

Especially, I recomend Harajuku (Meiji-jingumae) , Omotesando,Sibuya area for girl.
These area are well-known as the place that the young come together.

If you enjoy to see the traditional plase, I recomend Asakusa.

I hope that you enjoy TOKYO!!

Hi Leanna,

Just wished to share with you what were the things I like when I visited Japan last and this year. As you have two weeks, I would suggest you to go beyond tokyo city (if you haven't already tot of that).

Nikko is within 2 hrs ride from Tokyo city. If you have the JR pass, you can reach Nikko without paying any extra charge by using japan rail lines. Nikko has many shrines and temples which as UNESCO World Heritage Site. Definitely worth a visit if you like to immerse yourself in the japanese history and culture.

Kyoto is another charming old city which is also very rich in japanese culture. If you have JR pass, this can be easily accessible by Shinkansen (Bullet train) that is about 3 hrs ride away from Tokyo. A 2 to 3 day trip may be suffice.

Not to be missed is the Mt Fuji. Be in awe with this national icon. I was able to see it very clearly from Lake Kawaguchi area.

Have a great winter holiday in Japan.

Depends what you're into...

If you're into the more modern side of Japan, Tokyo is the place to be: shibuya, harajuku, etc.

If you're into the more traditional side, you need to get out of tokyo...maybe head down to kamakura (about 2 hour local train ride away). Reply to this
