Im in my final year of A Levels and i have absolutely no idea what i want to do for the rest of my life basically. One thing ive always been set on though, is the idea of travelling and working with orangutans of something similar.

I know im going to regret not going if i chose not to, but im madly in love with my boyfriend, been going out for a year, and i honestly don't think i could go long without him. He plays football and so never has the time off, so theres no chance he could go with me.

I have no idea what to do next year, i know i definitely don't want to go to university. I don't want to be sat home next year with a dead end job, working in a retail. But i cannot imagine leaving him that long, i couldn't enjoy the experience without him. What should i do?

Hello Kelly 😊

You are at least not alone when it comes to making that difficult decision. It is a frequently asked question on this site. See the following thread. Travel or Marry?

Maybe, your boyfriend can arrange to meet you for a holiday someplace during the year, while you are away?

You are probably at the perfect age to go see the world, without real responsibilities like mortgages, children and careers to contend with. I wish that I would have thought of it back at that age and gotten it out of my system. I just did my first solo trip and I'm 38 years old and it taught me so much about myself and my ability to achieve anything that I set my mind to. If your boyfriend truly loves you, he will understand and will be there when you return. I say go for it and it could put a little perspective for you as to what you want to do with your life. Good luck to you. Reply to this

I came back from traveling europe to find my s/o sleeping with my best friend.

It's never easy, and you might not come home to what you had, but don't let that hold you back.

Life's short and you have to get out there and do what your heart desires, letting the pull of other people keep you from your dreams will only lead to disapointment and possibly resentment down the line.

You might also come home and discover that you no longer want what you have. I moved to London, England when I was 19 and fully intended to continue having a relationship with my then boyfriend who is a small town Irish farmer. To make a long story short, as your life progresses you grow out of some relationships. Reply to this

Hey Kel, im in the same position as you atm..ive been planning my gap year after i finish school for years, and now having been in a relationship for a year the time has come for me to leave, and im torn between two sides of myself..sucky situation to say the least!
it doesn't help that my man isn't that great at saying what he thinks, so its next to impossible to have a proper discussion about the whole situation with him...hope your bf is a bit more willing to talk!
but yea..all ive been hearing from people is that im only young and people change etc etc but that really doesn't make things any easier 😞
i feel for you! Reply to this
