Do you ever look back over your old blog entries, or is it more a case of 'blog and forget'?

Sometimes when I get a comment on a blog entry or via a private message I go back and look over the relevant entry.

Usually I think "yeah, that was a really great trip", or "That was a fun weekend" - but don't often look back over blog entries without being prompted like that.

How many of you randomly look back over your own work? Reply to this

Now and again I read a paragraph here and there of my blogs. I dont usually pick out one and read the whole thing. Reply to this

I get really nostalgic when I think about the year I spent in Russia, so I read my first blog occasionally, but I wasn't a good enough writer to capture the moment so it's only the names of people and places that remind me of things - then my memory fills in the gaps. Thinking that it's more than three years ago makes me emotional, I would love to do it all again and be more adventurous with my writing and photos.

Writing about things now, it's therapeutic for me, because it means that the good things are documented somehow, hopefully for others to enjoy, and the bad things have passed ("blog and forget"). I tend not to look back on my Ukraine blogs, because it wasn't long enough ago for me to miss anything.

Me too 😊

Some of my blogs are now over six years old - that's a lot of space - occasionally I read one or two again - what it does do is triggers memories - and makes six years feel like yesterday. Reply to this

I re-read a lot to remind myself how much i change...I talk about my thought process in a lot of my blogs, so its helpful to look back and re-read. Reply to this

I am currently rereading my blog I wrote while I was in Kyrgyzstan to make it ready to upload onto TravelBlog. It is a weird experience to read about what it was like to be there, while I am in modern Germany. Things like I can take it for granted that the electricity wont cut out, while I am typing this post so there is no need to hurry just highlight how different it was to be there. I used to type the emails to my boyfriend as fast as I could and then hurry to hit send so he would know where I am and that I am safe. And I can walk down the street here without having my antennae out to watch if people are looking at me in a friendly or not friendly way. etc etc. Reply to this

I don't read the old blogs because they're not really interesting material as such, their primary function is more like a recording of the events that took place. I like the style that other bloggers use where they add the blogs less frequently with the most important material condensed and pondered on to make it read more like an article. I've thought about adapting to the less is more-doctrine, but it requires a lot of inspiration and time to write such elegant entries.

However, I often bring out the photos and watch them and allow myself to become overwhelmed with affection for whatever place it happened to be that time, and it always motivates me to go on travelling (much to the annoyance of my older and lazier self). Reply to this

Johan, I like your writing style, the details make reading your stories more rewarding.
