I like landing in Munich if the plane flies over the Alps, especially in Wintertime when there is more snow on them and there is a light icey mist hanging over them.

It's not a place I've blogged about (I was only about 10!) but Cape Town is a beautiful city, and landing there takes you around Table Mountain and the Cape of Good Hope. Thirteen years on I still remember the greens and blues; I'm sure there must be a photo on TravelBlog somewhere. Reply to this

One time I was flying into London Heathrow. There was some weather condition that prevented the plane from landing immediately so it circled London around 5 times instead. For anyone familiar with the soap opera EastEnders, the view was exactly like the opening of each episode when an ariel view of London is shown. Reply to this

Landing on the old airport of Hong Kong used to be spectacular, you could look right into somebody's kitchen as you flew past the highrises in town...

Also if you land at Amsterdam in spring you can see all the tulip fields, very beautiful... Reply to this

I've always been partial to landing in Nice, France, as the colours of the Mediterranean are just beautiful. If you sit on the correct side of the plane, it looks like you're going to land in the water...looking across to the other side of the plane you then realise that the airport is practically on the beach! Landing in Paro, Bhutan has got to be one of the most spectacular.

The plane zigs-zags through 3-4 succeedingly narrower valleys at sharp angles to each other, before finally turning into the Paro Valley barely moments before the touching down. The pilot has very little time to line up, and the last bit just before you touch down is above the Paro Chhu River, which then veers off and runs parallel to the actual runway.

Landing/Taking off in the opposite direction is also pretty hairy due to the steep angle of approach - Mt Jhomolhari/Chhomolari (23997ft/7314m), Bhutan's tallest peak, is roughly in line with the runway.

Flight operations take place only on clear days as Paro airport is VFR (visual flight rules) only - no instrument landing systems are available.

Oh, and when flying to Paro (from Kathmandu or Delhi) sit on the left of the Plane for views of Everest, Makalu and Lhotse (number 1, 4, 5), and later Kanchenjunga (number 3) .. all in the same flight! If you are flying in from Kolkata, you can still see Kanchenjunga, but not the others. Reply to this

I got an amazing pic coming into land in London, clear day though so pretty unusual for the UK!!!!! :-)

I liked the landing over Christchurch in New Zealand, with the mountains, glacier lakes and snow looking fab.

I really wish the airport in Hong Kong hadn't been moved as the pics of the planes coming into land between the buildings look awesome.& I would loved to have experienced it.

I have to say coming into land at Belfast city airport is pretty cool, apart from the fact it is my home, you get to see the coastline, the mountains (or hills depending on your definition!!) and all the mass of GREEN.......it is so very true, Ireland is definitely VERY VERY VERY green!
